The OL was better than I expected today. They should become more cohesive as they play more together.
If you draft a QB 1-1 next draft are you sure that QB is going to be good? So far Mills has been the best QB in his draft class and Lawrence, Fields, Lance were supposed to be cant miss prospects.
And Stroud isn’t better than Mills physically. Young is too short. There isn’t a generational QB in this draft.
Yards/TD/INT/Rating Davis Mills 240/2/0/98.9 Mac Jones 213/1/1/87.2 Justin Fields 121/2/1/85.7 Trevor Lawrence 275/1/1/75.0 Trey Lance 164/0/1/50.3 Just for perspective…
That was on Tunsil. For some reason he doubled teamed the inside guy with Green and just let Speed fly by him. Crucial mistake that one of the best LTs in the game shouldn't have made. Changed the entire complexion of the game and gave the Colts momentum. That play and the dumb 3rd and 1 Rex run were the key plays in our ability to win this game.
Young doesn’t have the athleticism Russ had. And he’s even smaller than Russ. But…….if you told me that he would be the next Russ of course you take him. I’m sure he’ll go top 5, that doesn’t mean anything though.
I like Young, way more than Stroud. But there are not many 5’10 guys in the league that have been successful without being 4.4/4.5 guys. 4.7/4.8 guys at his height and build is asking a lot
Mills did absolutely nothing in this game to show that he is the answer long term. Mills also did absolutely nothing in this game to show that he is not the answer long term.
Right. He had some good and he had some bad. Which ever one becomes more consistent will decide his fate
I think the one thing Mills has been a real disappoint in, is that he seems to be immobile despite his 40 time. Even Matt Ryan can scramble better than Mills. That doesn’t give any margin of error for Mills unless he’s damn near perfect and has an awesome team around him.
I would agree. He needs to move, he throws well on the run and the team does better when the pocket moves.
This is where I continue to be. He had some good reads/throws. His stats ultimately looked good and he made few mistakes. But even on many of his completions his accuracy was a little off and it affected the yards. Cooks would have had a TD on that flea flicker if he gets that throw a little farther downfield. Several other times we would have gotten additional yardage if he hits his receiver in stride. It was small stuff, but since he isn't the type of QB that will win games with his feet, he is going to have to improve accuracy on those short throws. I'm not convinced he won't be able to do that, especially with so few preseason snaps, but it is concerning. But I'm not ready to deem him yay or nay on the future of this team after just the one game this season.
We dramatically exceeded expectations in the first game -- tying a team that many expect to go to the postseason. Mills looked really nice up until the Laremy Tunsil whiff that led to the blindside hit and subsequent fumble. Yes, we blew a 4th quarter lead, but stepping back, this is a FAR BETTER start to the season than anyone predicted. Keep in mind Mills has no skill position weapons at all. He's trying to win with Pierce, Burkhead, Collins, Cooks, and castoff OJ Howard when other QBs are rolling out Jamarr Chase, Higgins, Boyd, Mixon or Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, Dalvin Cook; or Tyreek HIll, Jalen Waddle, Chase Edmonds... Heck, Aaron Rodgers has better skill position weapons than Mills and everyone agrees his weapons are insufficient! All things considered, Mills continues to do well in the face of incredible adversity.
Not to mention being handicapped by idiotic coaching. Caserio should be lining up his next head coach and offensive coordinator as we speak.
Mills needs to work on his accuracy, his awareness, and he needs to learn to feel pressure and move around in the pocket....those high passes to the sidelines are killers. DD
Not for me. I saw potential to pull some upsets. So true! He doesn't have any of the best receivers, running backs, or tight ends to make his job easier like a lot of the quarterbacks in the league. I was hoping Pierce might be that difference maker but Burkhead got most of the playing time with his measley 2.9 yards per carry. Ugh.
Early in the game...maybe the first play of the game...they rolled him out and he completed a pass in the flats. My son looked over at me and said, "Have they ever rolled out Mills before that play?" If they had, neither of us could remember it.
Some of the pressure he gets is because he doesn’t move well in the pocket. Just stepping up a couple of times he could have avoided the rush, but he’s a literal statue back there. It doesn’t matter if he has the ability to move if he refuses to do so.
