Would say he’s made himself into a legit prospect and had the best rookie season outside of Mac Jones. Arm talent isn’t Rodgers or Stafford level but he’s made some particularly good throws in the intermediate game. I think best thing to do is get him consistent good protection and run game has upside of a Derek Carr or Matt Ryan.

I'm thinking a little higher than those guys since Mills is so inexperienced.

Mills just capped off a season that exceeded anyone around here's expectations. If he can make the freshman to sophomore step-change improvement, then we've got a winner. We would then have the biggest team-building advantage available in the NFL today - a quality QB on a rookie contract.

He looks competent, and I mean that in the nicest way possible for a rookie QB given the Texans situation.

He’s looking like the next Kirk Cousins or Jimmy Garapalo. If you’re content with that, then good for you I guess.

There were reports out of training camp that Mills was completely lost, looking like a horrible draft pick, that hopefully he would end up as a serviceable backup…

Now we’re talking about this guy potentially being a franchise QB. I don’t know what he will ultimately end up being. But damn this dude has improved so much over the past 9 months. The fact that we’re even able to have this conversation is a testament to Mills’ hard work, dedication, and talent. Also have to give Nick Caserio his props as a talent evaluator.

If the guys from his first draft class continue to improve and contribute, and he hits on this upcoming draft with the quality picks he will have at his disposal- this rebuild may be a lot quicker than people expect.

This will be the most exciting off-season we’ve had in years, IMO. Looking forward to it

Mills has shown enough to keep the job next year. I wouldn't waste a high choice this year when the QB crop is weak anyways. None of the incoming QB's are going to be where MIlls is now. And if he improves in the off season, he's going to be just fine. He's got a chance to be a good starter. Beef up your trenches (offense & defense) and try to find a playmaker or two on offense.

Some of those throws that he made today your hero struggled to make last year.

He's a much better thrower of the football than the guys you listed

Of course you won't be able to see this

And to think there are some rooting for his failure. I think we know why this attitude exists.

It’s important that he be the clear starter going into next season. It gives him a chance to take on a leadership role in the off-season by setting up get togethers with the receivers and tight ends. Get him all the starter reps in OTA, minicamp, preseason, etc. If it doesn’t work out next season then they can re-evaluate the position.

You've just described what Watson is.

I’m very happy for Mills. He came to a team where he was going to backup DeShaun Watson, and the boom, he’s the starter.

And he looked so lost to begin his career, that people thought he was another wasted pick. But, look at him now, he’s probably had the second best season ever of the rookie class at QB.

He legitimately kept his team in some nail bitters, even defeating a very good San Diego team.

Kudos to the Texans for plucking a legit prospect in the 3rd round, and for not having to reach for a QB in the 1st round of the 2022 draft.

This draft is loaded with Pass rushers, and the Texans should get one…

I know there’s a few guys who can’t stand it, but Mills gives the Texans at least some excitement for the future. The kid could be legit.

Davis Mills was the #1 pro style QB recruit in 2017 (link below). Ahead of Jake Fromm (3) and Mac Jones (9). The talent has always been there -- he is just now getting the opportunity to get meaningful playing time after injuries limited his playing time at Stanford.

Hope like hell the kid is legit. Already having a franchise QB and then use the Watson trade assets for the rest of the roster would speed up the rebuild.

Davis Mills has played 1 less game in the NFL then he did in college and one of the college games involved 2 passes as a Sophomore.

He has thrown 80 less passes in the NFL than in college.

He's doing really well for being so inexperienced.

It's absurd seeing some reactions. They would have sent Brady back to the bench because he was a 6th rd pick and nothing more than a game manager.

I'm not saying he's gonna be Brady, I'm not even confident he will be any good next season. But by any standard of expectation he has been playing very well for a rookie over the second half of the season, and on a team with no talent to boot. But since he's a 3rd round pick he must be a scrub and has to win the job.

Give him a full offseason as the man, get him a little more talent and see how he does. The draft looks pretty meh for QB's next season anyhow. If he regresses or stagnates, then we go after your franchise QB in 23.
