Wow, I disagree completely. National syndicated sports talk is boring as hell. I switch back and forth between 610 & 790 and land on whichever is running local programming at the time. A 24 hour local sports talk station would be perfect.
I first thought as you do... but after awhile, even the local stuff gets really boring (especially since its the same 2-3 topics rotating over and over again...). The MAIN reason why Pallilo is so good is because he has an accurate pulse not only on Houston stuff, but on stuff going on around the rest of the nation. Ted DeLuca seems to be pretty underrated... his voice sounds too much like Thom Brenneman, but he seems to know his stuff (or maybe its because Lopez makes him look that much smarter... I dunno).
Part of the problem on some of the Houston shows I have listened to through online stream is the callers. They all talk about the same stuff... and it seems none of them call in about the Rockets. Our local stations get callers talking about at least four different college basketball teams (UC, XU, UK and UD mainly), three different football teams (Bengals, Ohio State, Louisville - and even occasionally UK and UC's football teams) and you will also get the occasional callers about other things, like high school sports or horse racing and big national coverage sports stuff. The callers in Houston only wanna talk about the Texans or college football. That's it. It's very annoying and boring.
But the Calls are Screened So They kind of Steer them to where they want to go anyway IMO or so it seems Rocket RIver
I have been pleasantly surprised by Dukes and Davies, especially Carl Dukes. I hated his evening show but I think he has improved ALOT having someone on the air with him. I tried tuning into 610 during the morning and those guys nearly put me to sleep. Granted Dukes and Davies are no Matt and Adam or Palilo but I think they are pretty good.
