Have a feeling people will begin to like McHale this season, see him really implementing the rookies in a fresh system.
Sounds like McHale is very picky. Some people may think he's terrible, but I think he deserves a chance with a team that fits him. Coaches work well with certain types of players, some wont mesh. I wasn't a fan of this hire when it happened, but it happened, we gotta give him a chance. Hopefully he's got the ability to light a fire with some of these young guys and they'll get along. I can see experienced players not getting along with a new coach, but these kids may do fine. I hope him and Lamb don't butt heads. As long as Lamb works hard during practice and games, there shouldn't be a problem.
Accountability has gone up. Some players got use to being practically coddled by Adelman. The ones that want to work, get better, and succeed with their teammates, don't have problems with coach.
Lowry is the ultimate competitor and hard worker. No way does he have a problem with McHale because he pushes him too hard. Lee (along with Lowry) complained about McHale’s inability to make adjustments after one of our three losses to the crap Timberwolves -- he just doesn’t think McHale is a good game manager. These players mostly have a problem with McHale because he’s not as good as their old coach.
Or how about you play the players who are playing the best? Parsons was everyone's last choice for a starting job he beat out. It o Ly buck get but Morris. I doubt he gets floor time under Adelman (or gets too limited playing time to show his value). Lowry lost out to Dragic because Dragic was playing better (yes it was unfair that Lowry was hurt, but still). I think coaches like Thibodeau, van gundys, Rileys are similar that way. I agree you can be successful being a players coach and BR good at managing personalities, but I think as a professional player making millions instead of b****ing about why someone else is getting to play, especially when the coach is clearly playing guys he thinks contributes best (otherwise, Chandler wouldn't have gotten real playing time and Dragic would have been demoted after Lowry came back). I don't doubt theres dissatisfaction but I bet there's a lot of that with other teams not in the upper echelon.
There's a good argument that says that you're. It coaching properly unless you hold players accountable for their play, no matter how hard they are trying. Also different players appeal to different coaches. I'm. It saying Mchale is a better coach than Adelman. He's not. But McHale is finished in his first year from a shortened season and did finish with a similar win percentage as Adelman with a substantially similar roster, keep
Ing in mind Patterson reverted (probably because of injury) and Lowry was injured and never fully recovered. I do think many of the players liked Adelman are the ones most unhappy. Also, Martin was traded and then later demoted so he was unhappy. Lowry lost his job and was mad at the lack of loyalty. Budinger lost out to a rookie do he was unhappy. Morris never saw playing time because Parson was better (and when I saw him play in limited stretches, he has yet to flash although hopefully that will come) so he was unhappy. Courtney Lee got more playing time but he's probably unhappy knowing the rockets are about to play RFA hardball. So there are lots of factors that might make players unhappy outside the easy excuse that McHale is bad as a coach.
I think we don't have a center right now because in Kevin McHale's legendary system of basketball, Luis Scola is the best center in the world! Next time I see Luis Scola at center, I think I will throw something on my TV. Also, before picking on the players, please remember than Martin, Lowry, Scola etc played hard under Adelman. Just go see the number of "proud of how hard our guys fight" threads in the Adelman era. I am not at all convinced of the McHale hire. Maybe we need to give him one more year to implement his system (if that exists ie).
I disagree to the similar roster argument. Give Adelman Sammy D or Camby and I am pretty sure he would have got us more wins. In the end of the Adelman years, there was no shot blocking at all. How many times have we seen the opposition get into a layup drill in the 4th quarter during the Adelman era?
It's too bad you never went and became a college coach. Maybe by now your resume would be up to par and the Rockets could be the team that hired you to achieve the goals you think they should have. I mean after all, aren't you in favor of tanking? Hiring you would have solved that!
Adelmans last 2 seasons 42 - 40 and 43 - 39 Mchales 1st season 34 - 32 Yet people think adelman magically did WAY better with basically the same team MFW... People just want a reason to hate, dont get me wrong i like adelman, just like i liked JVG. I think Mchale did the best he could last season and basically had the same record as adelmans previous two years. Mchale isnt a bad coach, he's just not phil jackson. If the players dont like him, so what? Hes the damn coach, im glad he's not afraid to put players on the bench.
Because people always feel the need to blame someone whether or correct or not. People are funny like that.
MCHALE has to understand that he was a rookie coach and that he HAS to IMPROVE substantially!! or else he is on the hot seat
He can't handle half of our players and his game plan is suspect..... Well he has to improve... I don't hate him but we knew in the beginning he was not in Adelman, George Karl, Rivers, Pops or Jackson's league.
I may not have agreed with the McHale hire, or that he won't utilize the depth in the Rocket's rotation more, or his use of undersized centers in the fourth quarter but as a coach one understands he needs more time to grow. Right now he may lose his veterans and end up with a young team or maybe not, I hope whatever Morey does he does it as quickly as possible to give McHale enough time to organize the team into the mold he wants. I say lets give McHale at least another year with the team and see if he improves and the team improves. Of course if he ends up with a group of inexperienced players don't expect a winning record.
