^^^^^^^^^^ Thorpe will support his guys and say what helps them. Everyone should quit with the McHale bashing. He started a 2nd round rookie early in the season and he flourished under him. No one can say he's not willing to play young guys. Rick was WAY more stubborn when it came to rotations and lineup changes. He puts out the players that give us the best chance of winning.
Fire McHale. Can't remember having so many players being unhappy with a coach. Plus, its not like he's an amazing coach. Just cut him loose. Bye-bye.
This article ends up leaving McHale looking quite negative. However, Van Gundy and Adelman weren't necessarily better about suddenly giving certain guys no shot at the floor, right?
Guys Mchale wasn't put in to be nice. He's there to Play guys who can play. CLee should of started long ago. McHale was put here to play guys who can play ball -that's how Parson's got found. So I'm not down on him. Really Sounds like we had "handshake" deals that fell through
Maybe the payers that aren't happy are p*****s. Until they actually accomplish something they should shut their mouths and do whatever the coach says. Thats what's wrong with today's players. They think they are entitled. I think his approach is perfect for a young team.
It's funny how many of our players don't like McHale, but at the same time, Kevin Garnett loves him. Who should we listen to?
Hang on a minute. McHale expects his players to bust their a$$es. And get better. And know what to do and how to do it. Yeah he's old school. So what? So is Pops. And so was Sloan. And a bunch of other successful coaches as well. Fact is, some of these guys are going to come in and bust their a$$es and show the coach that they can be trusted. Parsons = Exhibit A. And some of these guys are going to come in and expect to be handed things. Morris = Exhibit B. I am kind of liking the fact that we now have way more pieces than necessary in order to build a team.. even with moves on the way to thin the roster some, there are still going to end up guys who will be having to fight for a roster spot, much less playing time during games.
Bingo. You work...you play. Ain't **** given! U gotta earn it...and work hard to keep it. Don't like it? Beat it!
Wrong, Lowry was ASKED to come back early because McHale said they needed him and then was very upset when he felt he was taking the blame for the losing streak that followed shortly after his comeback. True but the real issue here is who McHale had to replace. Adelman was a player's coach, not really hard on his players, also not really holding them accountable, had a system that benefited a lot of players because positions were interchangeable. If you could score, you would get playing time under Adelman and on defense he knew they had to get better but left it up to the players to play hard. Then comes in this old school rugmuncher with his work hard or go home attitude, giving responsibility to the PG to run the team (which Lowry couldn't handle, not a natural leader) and forcing people to believe in him and his system. He's the opposite of Adelman because with him it's you work hard, you play good defense and you can get minutes. Hence, Parsons beating out Budinger. There's nothing wrong with it but as a 1st year coach with emotionally fragile players like Martin & Lowry, who were closest to All-Stars on our team prior to start of last season, it's not smart to rub them the wrong way. I mean, Martin has earned his stripes and for him to be playing some games 40 minutes, the next 20, then 30, then 14, then 8, then 32 to him might be a sign of dislike / disrespect. There was a guy named Kenny Smith who was very upset during the double clutch years that Cassell was finishing games. In 94-95, he got very upset and started pouting on the bench. It doesn't take much for some players to get hurt, but the difference is Rudy and McHale's approach. Rudy probably calmed things down and really talked with Kenny to assure he would feel appreciated. McHale probably didn't even talk to Kevin about it, or just said: "Hey, you gotta go out there and work hard and you will get minutes." So I understand Martin's frustration, especially since he did try to play the best defense he could this year. Lowry on the other hand has less to complain about, yet he decides to go public with it. This is partly the fault of the atmosphere that has been created under Morey with the talk of players like they are not human. I think 90% of players dislike him and I don't blame them. The problem is however bigger than McHale and unfortunately it's not going to change until this whole asset era comes to an end. I will say this about Morris though, he didn't show anything to deserve playing time and if he's unhappy, so be it. The guy only has himself to blame and should work hard, regardless of the situation. You're a rookie, stfu and play.
I just don't understand how anybody can hate a coach that demands the best from his players at all times.
This. Mchale is old school. You know, back when coaches are expected to be followed, and players are expected to lay it out on the line. Personally I've had enough of player coaches, those guys play patty cakes and never win anything. The best coaches are ALWAYS touch coaches who don't take sh$t from players, guys like Pops, PJ, JVG, Larry Brown and SVG. More importantly, why are you guys making a fuss out of Lowry, Morris and Kmart? Those three don't like him, but Camby, Dragic and Parsons have all liked Mchale's style and both Camby and Dragic have publicly said they want to return.
Morris was even whining to JSolomon throughout the season about his playing time and getting sent down to the D-League. Red flag.
I just honestly do not understand all of the hate on McHale. Honestly, I thought it was a disaster when McHale was hired as the coach. However, after last year my opinion changed about him. The man had a winning record in a lockout shortened season. A lot of the things he had to do such as changing some of the offense and improving defense had to be done on the fly. I don't understand all of the Adelman love either. McHale's record last year is similar to what Adelman had done the two years before. I honestly like McHale's old school approach. We need mentally tough players out there to survive the 82 game grind of a season. If players aren't mentally tough, they are hard to rely on. I guess you can put me in the McHale support camp as well. I appreciate his wanting to win bad approach. For the people wanting rid of McHale, prepare to continue to scream for his termination because he isn't going anywhere. I will say it now, if we do not get a drastic upgrade this off season in talent, then we are going to be in the 6-8 range in the West next year. I really do believe McHale will get us to the playoffs next year, even if it is as an 8 seed. I just hope the organization will give McHale more time than some of the people on this board are willing to give him. I believe McHale will do a solid job as coach of the Rockets.
