McHale is out there to win. He hates losing. If a player offers the team the best shot at winning then he will be playing. That is really all it is.
Wait, I thought it didn't make sense for either party for Rick to come back (we were going to have to rebuild without Yao and T-mac so he wouldn't want to stay/ we wouldn't want to pay him ~7 mil to rebuild) so he left for greener pastures. Then Morey went out and got McHale to act as the rebuilding coach, we overachieved a bit last year (a lot considering the injuries) and that rebuilding was happening under his watch, but that he was in no way running the show. Is he powertripping here? Or is it sour grapes from the players?
BTW - Here is another source closer than anyone here with the exception of Clutch saying that there are problems with McHale. I don't see how some people can still not see what is so clearly there. DD
I like McHale as a coach, but WTF? You have to like a player to give him playing time??? Just to show age does not mean in automatic maturation. Please, grow up.
McHale has flawed philosophies; your job isn't to coach them hard, it's to win games. So whatever it takes to win games, you do it. If you have to be a hard ass on some players or nurture/coddle some players, you do it to win games. The psychology of today's players are different from when Bill Fitch rode his ass when he was a Celtic, it won't work today. The my way or the highway mentality only gets you so far. McHale needs some jeet kune do lessons and be like water, flow with the talent that is handed to you instead of riding them into the ground like this was 80's.
Screw McHale, and screw Adelman. I say bring back Jeff Van Gundy. Hey, it wouldn't be the first time a coach became an announcer then a coach again... And besides, after his rant on flopping last season, he got a TON of respect out of me. Man, I miss this guy--he deserved to win a lot more. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/RfjkEXh-b18" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And here's a brief one I just found. (Seriously, ANY team that needs a coach, HIRE THIS MAN.) <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/0SeB7wpmA80" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This is non sense all coaches in EVERY team clash with players. Im suprised Lowry asked to be traded, very un professional Martin on the other hand is keeping quiet which is tolerable.
Put me in the "Supporting McHale" camp on this one. Perhaps I'm old school, but a coach has to demand effort, defense and hustle from his players. If you let players that don't exhibit these traits play, you won't be a good basketball team. Martin didn't like McHale because he didn't play him late in the game when he disappeared on offense and hurt the team on defense. Too bad. He was right to bench him in those situations. Lowry didn't like McHale because he didn't run as much of Adelman's offense as he liked and played Dragic after he got hurt. Too bad. How about you suck it up, play better, and let the coach actually coach the team. Morris stayed glued to the bench because he couldn't stay in front of his man on defense, and didn't demonstrate any hustle when he got limited opportunities. For all we know, that's what he looked like in practice too. And this comes from someone who was excited about Morris. Thorpe doesn't like McHale because the guys that train with him don't like McHale and haven't thrived under him. That's fine, but it doesn't mean we should take him seriously. In fact, it means exactly the opposite. I can't wait until we trade these guys. I have limited hope for Morris still with a training camp, but he better start working harder or he should be out the door too.
No thanks, bro. The only thing worse than watching JVG's offense is watching the second half of Super 8.
Morey's at fault. His collection of "assets" continue to underwhelm both on the floor and in the open market. McHale, his hand-picked coach, is a glorified cheerleader who has rubbed many in the org the wrong way. Other GMs are reluctant to work with him, and beat writers are buddy-buddy with him, at times poking fun at his desperation and overblowing the whole Dork Elvis schtick to cartoonish proportions. I keep waiting for that stroke of genius... but I don't think it'll ever come. He's trying to dress a buck without getting any blood on his hands. He needs to quit toying with the ass-end of the roster, and go for broke. The DH12, Hibbert, J-Smoove hype will be through the roof throughout the summer, but the brilliant, number-crunching wizard will land a Jason Thompson type. Then he'll ramble about being very high on him since Day 1, cap space, and potential of our tweener forwards... classic Murry. Time for some new blood both on the court and in the front office. Morey's an enigma.
Everyone on CF should read this post. The McHale blaming is getting silly. I can't even tell if our players are whiny or this is just an overblown media thing.
I wouldn't put too much stock in what Thorpe writes. Over the years I've noticed he tends to hype up his clients/the players who do his training camps. Re: his opinions from this article, need more info.
I don't care how McHale treats players. They're professionals and should get the sand out of there vaginas. However, McHale is a TERRIBLE in game coach and that's a much bigger deal to me.
I like Lowry but I honestly think he was butthurt after coming back from his bacterial infection and not getting as many minutes as he wanted. I think McHale made the right call in limiting his minutes and not trying to mess with the team's chemistry too much after Lowry came back not in game shape.
