What is this crap with not playing you if he doesn't like you. Did Morris ever show that he was better than Parsons or Bud last year. I say this even though I though Morris had Melo potential. If Morris could stay in front of his man and didn't look lost out there, he would have played. The reason Morris didn't play was because he didn't show that he was better than the guys in front of him.
I agree and though I like Lowry I honestly feel he's the one blowing things up. If you're not playing well you stay on the bench. You were injured and Dragic took your position, like you did with Brooks, and as a player the only thing you can do is get better and earn the position back. As for Martin I don't even care, dude is soft as all hell and I hope we get rid of him-- and Lowry, if need be. And along with your last sentence, I really really hope that Morey has no intentions of trading Scola unless it's for elite talent. Scola is the grit and soul of this team and we need him and Camby as the veteran presences, otherwise I don't think our locker room is going to survive with this many bottle-feeders.
I don't know why Morey thought McHale would be so great for developing young talent. He glued our lottery pick to the pine all year and shattered his confidence to the point where he feels McHale thinks he "stinks." Now McHale might not be able to cultivate Lamb's talent because of his "sleepy demeanor"?? Ughh. McHale basically just plays whoever he thinks "plays hard"; he's not a good enough coach to adjust to his players strengths when that can actually help you win. Remember when everybody said Rubio would fail because his skillset isn't a good fit for Adelman's offense? Well, they were all wrong, Adelman changed up his offense a lot in order to adjust to Rubio's strengths. I really don't blame Lowry for hating McHale's guts.
Martin got plenty of minutes and touches when he was healthy. McHale plays the person who gives him the best chance to win.
Look everyone, McHale was brought here with one intention by Morey and one intention only. To be the fall guy whenever we start the rebuilding of the organization.
Blame Daryl. That's all they are. Trade bait, trade assets, whatever you want to call it. As ima_drummer has said, they're just biding their time until Morey can flip them into something else that he can later flip into something else, and so on, and so on, and so on.......
Thorpe does offseason training for three of our players. Of course he's going to stick up for them. Two of them unfortunately are in McHale's doghouse. They also happen to be the two who don't appear to be mentally strong. I think McHale likes Courtney Lee quite a lot. Lee is not erratic; his peak is nowhere near Kevin Martin's, but he doesn't pout or throw hissyfits if things aren't going his way. This is blown way out of proportion. Whether or not the coach likes them or not, the truth of the matter is that they're simply not talented enough to take us deep in the playoffs. A coach can't change that.
But very few players can handle that, especially kids not old enough to buy beer. Good coaches are teachers, strategist, mediators (with refs), counselors, button pushers, entertainers, and motivators, but button pushers above all else. They have to be able to motivate without aggravate, and they must be careful not to push a player to the point of souring on their coach. The my way or the highway approach became outdated years ago. These are young men, and they must be carefully managed not bullied into submission. That doesn't mean you spoil them (as I suspect Rudy did with Steve). It's necessary to be firm, especially in treating everyone the same way, but I don't think the modern NBA is suited for head coaches on power trips. I assume (hope) McHale understands this.
Too bad because Minny got themselves a good coach and Morey and Les were stupid enough to fired Rick because they think he's not good enough for them...
No, I think Rick wasn't offered a new contract because he started yapping to the media, same as Jeff. I think Les hates that. I'd bet money on it. McHale is a company man. It's how he kept his previous job years longer than anyone felt he deserved.
I have a real problem with McHale if this is all true. The best coaches use a group of players talent to make a system not force a system on the talent. Take a player who is a great spot up shooter tell him I don't want you to shoot, instead I want you to back guys down old school style and use a hook shot.
Yeah, that's EXACTLY what McHale said about Lamb during the press conference today. That he will not give Lamb playing because of his sheepish looks. Ughh, indeed. And we had two youngsters who had break out seasons playing for Mchale, and a third youngster in Courtney Lee who earned his playing time over KMart. When KMart is not making his shots, what else is he but a defensive liability?
This was a very insightful take by McHale, and seems to make a lot of sense. Personally, I agree with the evaluations - never been high on Morris, and I hate, hate, hate the T. Jones pick. Also not really big on Lamb, while I look forward to seeing Patterson's development. I think from what happened last season, it's pretty clear that Morris has a long ways to go from really contributing.
