Just saw this on twitter. http://thebiglead.com/index.php/201...responded-have-you-stopped-beating-your-wife/ David Stern is sick of being asked about whether or not the NBA draft lottery is rigged. It’s a legitimate question, of course – more than a handful of people I’ve talked to asked, “hmmm, wonder if Benson agreed to buy the hapless, talentless Hornets under the agreement that Stern deliver him a franchise player who could stir fan interest?” – but the NBA commish has had enough with the questions. Undaunted, Jim Rome asked Stern about the lottery this afternoon. In a mocking tone, Stern shot back, “have you stopped beating your wife?” as if to say that’s how much credibility the question has. It doesn’t appear as if Rome has ever had any such incident. The 1985 draft, though … conspiracy theories linger.
rome should be aware of any ticking noises coming from his car. Boom. the commissar does not play around.
If the league really did favor the Knicks, you sure think they'd have won a championship in the past 35 years (Don't remember when they won last, just that it was the 70s). The draft lottery has been suspicious though. Ewing to the Knicks. LeBron to the hometown Cavs. Cavs lose LeBron, get the 1st pick again. Now the NBA-owned, currently in selling process Hornets get the 1st pick. Of course, over the span of 28 years of draft lottery, 4 suspicious winners would happen just by random.
Did anyone catch what Jim Rome said in his next segment? Maybe something like... Rack that call clones??
screw sportsradio 610, dagnabbit. listening via internet radio still doesn't seem right for some reason.
Stern hand picks the team he wants drafting at the position he desires and sends some jabroni with an envelope out to the podium to announce it. It's not rigged at all.
It could very well be a coincidence- but I just find it suspicious that the year Rose enters the draft, his struggling hometown Bulls win it. The Cavs winning it a year after Lebron wasn't too suspicious, since they were 2nd in the league. I think Washington getting Wall was a fluke, but Benson buying the first overall? I think that's more than possible. Same with the bent envelope and the Knicks. Other than that, I think the lottery is relatively clean. The NBA does a terrible job of making it appear though. If it was rigged, I think you'd see the Raptors and and Nets winning the top pick at least once in the past 5 years.
How do you ask a loaded question about the draft being rigged? Anybody have a transcript? This conversation is like the irresistible douche meets the immovable turd sandwich.
About as good as <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9HNgqQVHI_8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This is definitely not the Stern of old. In the past, he would've just said flat out no, and moved on. The way he answered it seems awfully shady and makes him look like a complete douche (he used to just be an assumed douche with his smirks and smug look). I think all these conspiracies have taken a toll on him.
