I dont see why this should slide. Rockets got hosed. Morey or Les Alexander should seek more than an answer from the league if it stays that way.

There is no problem with the Hornets taking on salary. The GM had permission to increase payroll as long as they didnt go into luxury tax

I am confused. What do you mean just $32? It says they got him for $2,000,032. What am I missing?

Other teams also bid $2 million...and they won him by bidding the extra $32.

Well said. No one seems to be talking about the obligation of the Hornets' GM to Hornets' fans (what little there are). Management's job (as stewards of the team) has to be to put a team on the floor that can compete. At this point, New Orleans residents don't even know if they'll have a team next year. They are not interested in waiting around for a rebuilding process only never to see the benifits from it. What Stern did was unfair to all Hornets' fans. I guarantee you that if you polled Hornets fans, knowing they might not have a team after this year, and asked them if they would rather have a competitive team that can make the playoffs, or a bad team that will net them a good draft pick next year, I'm pretty sure they would prefer the Scola, Odom, Martin, Dragic option. Who the hell would buy tickets to see the current roster? or a roster of young scrubs who may not win 20 games?

I'm giving up after this. It's useless to keep beating my head against the wall. There IS a problem with the Hornets taking on salaray because they aren't paying the bills. The other owners are paying for the team. No one has the right to make every other club pay for NO to take on more salary. If NO was owned by an individual or group, OTHER THAN the other owners comprising the NBA, this trade would never have been vetoed.

Ok that's what I thought he meant, but I guess I was blind and missed it. Thanks for clarifying.

And what a ****ing train wreck for the league. Stern needs to resign immediately. I have never been one for conspiracy theories, but this is ridiculous.

If you honestly, deep in your heart, believes that it's okay for your favorite to be operated by the collective will of 29 other owners, then you are the most gullible, delusional fan I have ever seen.

    Irrelevant.

My heart may agree and we all feel for the fans, but they don't own the team. Slavery and indentured servitude are outlawed in this country. The owners cannot be compelled to shell out more dough to keep NO afloat. It hurts, but that's business.

Wrong. Stern said he made the veto free from the influence of other owners.

If he vetoed because of other owners, that brings up all type of collusion and antitrust problems. Stern's lawyer surely inserted that free of influence line into his statement.

And again, if the league wanted to cut Hornets payroll, why didnt Demps, the freakin gm of the team, know about it?

The Hornets are going to have to increase their salary no matter what. Don't they have to be at the minimum of 85% of the cap?

The REAL reason Stern vetoed the trade

He couldn't let Lebron go another season without winning a championship. It'd be horrible media if his superstar retired without ever winning a championship. If LA got Paul, then they'd most likely get Howard and, with a team of Bryant, Paul, and Howard, the Lakers would pretty much be the only team in the NBA who could challenge the Heat for a title. Now, because of the veto, the Heat have a clear (or at least clearer) path to the championship and Stern's cash cow has an excellent chance of looking as golden as ever.

Out of all the threads about the veto I've read I've never once read this theory which kind of surprises me. I'm sure this theory's been brought up before though because it seems like such an obvious reason for the veto. I'm sure that, if the veto was a conspiracy, THIS was the reason.

    Seriously?

Stern and the owners hate LeBron for taking less money to form a superteam.

LeBron's move caused CP3 and other stars to copycat and demand trades out of small- market teams.

I hope LeBron rapes Dallas every time.

Hey you might be onto something....

Or Stern might be wanting to build the North East basketball. Build New York, New jersey, etc....

If Paul would have gone to L.A. then the cap space would have been there to get Howard too. And that would be another 5 year dynasty.

Miami vs. Lakers for the next five years.

I don't think LeBron started this whole "leave a small market to go to a bigger market" movement.

I think it started when Steve Francis demanded a trade from the Grizzlies to the Rockets when he was drafted.
