Not gonna argue, but when best centers of all time are talked about, David Robinson is never mentioned. Hakeem is always considered top 5, and higher then that not only by fans, but by his peers. People that play with and against you would know better than any fan.<p>And your logic about wins are crazy. This is a team sport, and the greatest player (MJ) could not beat the Pistons until he got a supporting cast. So I guess your logic means Isiah Thomas was a better player than MJ.
You obviously never watched Robinson and Olajuwon play. It is arguable that Robinson was as good or better on the offensive end of the floor.... but not on thr defensive end. Hakeem was the best defensive player of his era.
Robinson w/Duncan 20-0 Robinson alone 10-12 Olajuwon w/Francis 0-20 Olajuwon alone 12-10 Owned my ass, Duncan owned those pathetic francis era teams, not Robinson. Without Duncan, Dream vs. Robinson was a pretty even regular season matchup, but come money time Olajuwon 35 PPG 12 RPG 4 BPG 2 Rings Robinson 24 PPG 11 RPG 2 BPG 0 Rings That my friend is ownage.
I have already exposed you once for making claims about the 90s Rockets teams when it was clear you hadn't even watched them back then. Stop embarrassing yourself.
Epic fail. Duncan only played 10 games against Hakeem. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=olajuha01&p2=duncati01
Yeah David and Hakeem played a lot of games, over 30 before Tim Duncan and Olajuwon lost most of them... something like 22 of 32 were losses. In the regular season Robinson won a lot. There's no shame in acknowledging that... especially since it's true Individually, they went back and forth. There were games when Robinson dropped 40 on Olajuwon and Olajuwon would come back and drop 47, 45 on Robinson. In the regular season it really was back and forth, it's not like Yao/Howard with a one sided domination or Shaq/Yao where one guy got old and one guy was clearly more effective. Even when Olajuwon was over the hill, by that point Robinson had to defer to Duncan so even in in 2000, 2001 it was even with games of 9/9 or 10/13 lol. Robinson won a lot in the regular season, like he did against everyone. In the playoffs Olajuwon dominated all comers, including his main rivals Ewing, Robinson and Shaq.
QFT!!! I admire David as a great player and a classy person but in one legendary play-off series when all chips were in and the absolute focal point was the centre match-up, Hakeem emphatically demonstrated without any shred of doubt who was first among equals.
So Shawn Kemp "OWNED" Olajuwon as well. Look at that regular season record well in Kemp's favor. AND the PLAYOFFS record in Kemp's favor. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=olajuha01&p2=kempsh01 No it was not. Hakeem is the ALL TIME BLOCKS LEADER. Hakeem is also in the top 10 All Time in career STEALS. Thats like being Mutombo AND Gary Payton on D. Going off the previous remark, trying to appear "reserved" in this is coming off a bit hollow.
I'm unclear on how the OP can make the claim that Robinson owned Hakeem even in the regular season. They put up essentially the same stats, clearly Robinson just had the better team for a large portion of their faceoffs. There's a huge difference between Spurs owned Rockets and Dave owned Dream. In that regard, Shroopy's above Kemp point is perfect. You can't pin EVERYTHING on team results, otherwise you can reach conclusions like "Derek Fisher OWNED Jason Kidd".
Season games don't mean crap if you don't bring your game to the playoffs. As good as the Admiral gave it during the season, Hakeem brought far more to the table in terms performance. When it was money time, Hakeem put the team on his back and carried them all the way. Spurs also had a better team than the Rockets. As far as defense goes, Robinson had a much better textbook defense while Olajuwon defended mainly with instincts. Dream was definitely better at blocking and protecting the rim as well as coming up with timely individual steals. Robinson on the other hand, was far more disciplined and played the passing lanes a bit better. Both are great centers and can dominate the league today. Hakeem was simply one of the rare breeds (true superstars) who had an extra gear during crunch time, kind of like MJ, Johnson, Bird, ect. When the going got tough, Hakeem did more. It was as simple as that.
Regular season huh? The rest of the world probably only remembers, Robinson being put in the popcorn machine, when it mattered most. Owned.
David Robinson "edged" Hakeem in the regular season, with team wins and Robinson's better efficiency considered. Can say that. Hakeem handily WHOOPED Robinson when it really mattered in the postseason. Thats the greatest equalizer that puts Hakeem in front. I actually thought Hakeem against Robinson in the playoffs that Robinson didnt "destroyed" as much as it was made out to be. (Like how they say Hakeem "destroyed" Shaq in the Finals. Not really...) BUT these stats actually DO show that Hakeem put it ON Robinson just as mentioned. So thanks for the clarification
