Probably a playoff team in the east, and he'll have a decent coach, some good burn, loving fans. Could be a lot, lot worse.
Wait - what did Boston do this for? If there is no pick in the exchange to Boston, I don't see the point of this trade for them unless they think David Lee is a really good basketball player(he isn't)
He's a fantastic basketball player if you are getting him for $5 mil for 1 year, which they are in this case.
I see what your saying but that doesn't make a lot of sense. Just because you got rid of one guy not worth his $10mil contract doesn't make it a win to pay someone else slightly more useful but still not worth his even more expensive contract - this is a rebuilding team with no stars on the roster your talking about and we are talking about an aging player who always lacked NBA level athleticism and is now coming off an injury. Just because he is more useful than the last aging overpaid guy doesn't make it a win. Besides, Wallace could have been waived and his salary stretched to like $3mil over the next 3 or 4 years - a number that doesn't mean too much to a team with no max contract players, and no budding stars, and a huge hike in cap space next year and the year after. ...on another note, the Warriors love fest continues. I saw a writer say how "honerable" it was that GS traded Lee to a team with such a deep winning tradition. Ummm - the Celts are a rebuilding team. Let's not sugar coat things just because GS did the deed - aging vets coming off a title don't want to go play with a team that is only a playoff team by default because of how historically bad the conference is. They are a playoff team more because multiple teams in their conference are suspected of tanking.....the effing Warriors love fest continues.
Yep they are adding only 5 mil (and change) and replacing their 12th guy with David Lee, sweet deal for them.
If you are saying that it's not a good deal because they should tank and get another young star, I see your point. But it would be near impossible for them to tank, they were no.7 playoff seed in the East. They have too many good young players and too good coach. So they might as well pay an extra 5 mil and improve their team. They'll need to get their stars by developing their youngsters, or maybe with one of those Brooklyn picks, or in a trade. Re bolded -- why would they do that? Losing 3 mil in cap space for 2 more years isn't a lot, but it's worse than 0 mil.
