i think the Andrea Bargnani thing shows that he's not defending the paint much. if you are mainly stuck in the midrange area where the shots are the most inefficient, your proximal FG% is going to be good. Not because you are an awesome interior defender but because you avoid going inside altogether. I think that proximal number is more useful when judging a true paint defender like Perkins or Hibbert. Larry Sanders leads that stat but he's a wild man, all over the place, so it's a bit less useful in that case because it's bound to include a bunch of midrange shots. And for a Bargnani, it seems quite useless. Overall, i thought the first few stats/tables in that article were more interesting, that proximal stuff didn't seem very well thought out. They seemed to be showing off their stats engine at that point.
