Of course. I just wanted to make sure you were after the smackdown that was laid down upon you the other day. GOOD DAY
Thanks for checking, sweetie. You're a bigger man than I. You get smacked down every day (at least) and I never check on you.
I saw that episode. Creed didn't appear to understand the concept of high card, yet was shocked when he did not win. Proof that David Cross is usually correct in critiquing marketable poseurs: Creed goes to Denny's. "311, I am ready to fight!"
You must be kidding? I'm not taking sides on any of the crap yall are arguing about and I love Dave Chappelle but every thing he does is racist. Its funny but incredibly racist.
We have different ideas about what constitutes racism. You probably think Sarah Silverman's act is racist too.
I totally agree with you about that "wax" word. Holy crap. BTW - my favorite thing about this thread is when everyone says "I think they both suck" or "I love both of them" or "I like Larry but he's not as funny as" or you get the picture....and then list a bunch of comics I have never heard of but cannot wait to check out! I just found out about Billy Connolly and OMG...that dude is HILARIOUS! So Achilleus I will be checking out the guys you listed (other than Harlan...know him already) Another sign of prentiousness: I prefer Jazz.
I think it may be technically racist, but not negative. A black comedian saying white guys can't dance, is technically racist.(though not in the world of comedy or the arts) However there is a different spirit in that type of joke than saying having any raghead muslim saying the prayer at the GOP convention is like having murderers at the scene of a crime. It is different than saying to 'f***ing bad if a bunch of towel heads that didn't do something wrong are dead. And I don't give a rat's a$$.' Those kind of jokes, both based in race are ethnicity, are drastically different.
Please share the politically incorrect laugh out loud comment that was right-wing biased. Again, I'm tired of it, and this thread is stupid. The fact that Batman, RM95, and TJ all get into a discussion lambasting each other shows how r****ded politics have become these days. "But you said..." "No, I didn't..." "Nu uh..." "Says you..." Honestly...., and I mean this sincerely, I will give the winner one butter cookie who can show me the last honest-to-goodness change a President made since the New Deal with FDR. Otherwise, enjoy what God gave you and worry less about stuff that pisses you off.
I tuned into some award show on Comedy Central to catch a live performance from Death Cab For Cutie tonight. After the performance, they mentioned that David Cross was coming up next. This thread peaked my interest because I'd never heard of him so I decided to wait a few minutes before switching back to the Rocket game and see what he was all about. Maybe he was having an off night or something because, to be honest, I thought his act was kind of lame. I didn't think he was offensive at all. That would have been funny. I just thought he was...well, boring.
I got the same impression watching Larry the Cable guy today on Comedy Central. Lame and boring. He talked about his Grandmother farting and he made fart noises. How funny. The real question is why a thread on two mediocre comedians lasted 2 whole pages.
The funniest thing about David Cross' act on the Comedy Central thing tonight was when he said "Git r done" when he first came out.
For money or not (Batman) the reason DC uses that phrase is to ride the coat tails of LtCG's popularity right now, and introduce himself to a new crowd. Also as he puts it "easy humor." He's clearly stirring the pot of this feud, hoping to garner more attention for himself. Can you blame him? It's not hard to understand that really everyone hopes to become more mainstream, and DC's not the first comedian to do it by using someone else's lines, in a feud or otherwise. Be evian if you want to Batman, but DC is purely in the entertainment business for the money. And I'm sure it urks him to no end that someone he finds "racist" or "offensive" or certainly someone that "may support the current president" is making more money and garnering more of the spotlight than him, while (I believe admittedly so) using less effort to do so. Anyone that doesn't have to work as hard as you, yet makes more at the same job... well, it's human nature to try and bring them down, or dog them... unless you are strong enough in your own self to just be your own act. DC's act is really tired, unless you're a hardcore liberal. By the same token LtCG's act is way 2003, and is also severly worn out. And while I dare say LtCG's act had just about run it's course, DC's pot stirring has probably just motivated all of LtCG's fans, and Whitney himself to put more into it. DC will surely as an act last longer, the way the world is headed. Or will it? When it was taboo to say the "n" word. Comedians like some of the praised ones of late on theis BBS began saying it over and over. When it has been taboo to do anything, or say anything publicly, usually a comedian picks up on it, and whoever seems to garner the buzz from it first profits from it. Or at least it "sticks" as their act. The best thing DC has done in years was the role in MIIB as the vid store clerk. BUt just like his national, across the board appeal, it was brief. Don't worry LtCG is in the same boat. His appeal accross the board has already been to the "jumped the shark" moment as well. And DC not offensive or stereotypical? How about his mockery of mental r****dation? On prime time NBC no less? Just Shoot Me? Was that very sensitive? Both have offended people, races, religions, etc. equally I'm sure. I know I've been offended by both. I know I've changed the channel when either one have been on. But at least I tolerate both to a point enough to not be considered a straight hypocritical bigot about them myself. Yes, Batman. To answer your question that had already been answered before you asked... I have seen several of David Cross's shows, his act, and I even read the full thread and the letter on his "Bob and David - It's Official" website that was linked before I posted. Did you? Or did you just assume that DC must be right because he's against Bush? I've clearly said that both have their funny moments, and that I don't prefer either one of them as real comedians. It seems to me that both make a living off of degrading others. As it seems you do on this board often times. "You wanna go to Cambodia?"
It terms of comedy, I dont think either David Cross or Larry the Cable guy are in the upper echelon of comedians today, but if I had to pick one I'd go with Cross. Why? For the simple fact that he is on the best television show on television today ( Arrested Development : Mondays at 7 on Fox), while the cable guy is on one of the most unfunny shows I've ever seen. I mean come on...
