I don't know what to make of this, MadMax : [rquoter]"That last third down, we should make that play," coach Gary Kubiak said. "We should stay on the field right there and have a chance to win the game. I think David did his job, but as players and coaches, sometimes you've got to do a little more than your job, and that counts for all of us. We needed to do a little bit more to find a way to win."[/rquoter]Carr OK with choice to settle for overtime
Agreed...no one will trade for him as there is more of a chance of him being cut than not, IMHO...All this does is put us in re-build mode, meaning we'll stink it up next year too...
I was actually coming to this forum to start a new thread of 'who should QB next season?', but this thread works just fine. Consider that in less than a half of football, Sage Rosenfels threw for as many touchdowns as David Carr has in the last 9 games combined. The silence from Rocketman95 is deafening. I don't think this is the end of the world for the Texans, but I do agree with 'Max that this is likely the end of David Carr's career with the Texans. You're an expansion franchise 5 years in and it looks like you may have made a massive draft blunder by passing on a player that could have been an incredible football AND business decision -- instead watching him go to a division rival and electrify a franchise with a history in your city. Throw in nearby New Orleans' instant success with a new coach, new QB and another talent you could have picked, and you got problems in this city. Like it or not, David Carr is the reason for that. He will always be the reason that Vince Young isn't wearing the hometown uniform. Fair or not, he is the lightning rod for all the criticism. Fortunately there are people in charge who are far smarter than I (I'm assuming) and perhaps they still see the potential in Carr, but they can't afford another year like this and I think the writing is on the wall for a QB change for next year. They need to take Carr out of the equation and do something to win some fans over in the area.
I have never said that David is the best quarterback ever. I don't think I can say that he is 100% guaranteed to be here for next year. Heck if we can revamp the OL and trade him, so be it. Kubiak knows a lot more than we do as far as coaching is concerned, and we're just watching games, not entire practices and/or offense studying time. What I can say is that David doesn't 1) play BOTH SIDES of the ball, 2) kick Field Goals, 3) etc., etc., (you know where I am going with this). All I am saying is that it might be 30% true that he is at fault for not throwing the long bomb accurately, holding the ball too long, etc. Fine. Don't make him be the one at fault for bad offensive play calling, or bad defensive schemes like blitzing on Vince Young when coaches know he will burn us... you know? It is a team effort, gentlemen. David Carr is attempting to clean up his act WITHOUT support from all sides. It is stupid, however, that Bob McNair tells Vince Young's mom that we could have picked up Vince had we not have had DC. New Orleans has NOTHING to do with Houston.
I've been a Carr supporter. But I've given up. Partly is his fault the other is the offensive sheme. I don't care if Carr costs us some games by throwing the picks this year. We're not trying to be the Bears ala win Super Bowl this year. We needed to figure out if Carr can do some things and simply the guys upstairs haven't given him a chance. I think Carr can be a solid QB else where just not here it's clear that the fans and coaching staff have given up. It's time to draft a QB. I'm truly hoping for Troy Smith. I don't want a middle of the road QB ala Jake Plummer. Get a QB in the 1st or 2nd and devlope him the right way. Heck draft an AP or Calvin Johnson. I supported the Mario pick last year, but this year its clear this team needs a franchise player. Mario is the poster child for missed opporunity Carr is the poster child for failure Let's get somebody excite the city of HOuston.
Swoly, I appreciate your love of the team, man. But I think you are having a hard time admitting what is becoming more and more obvious. Throw out Young, Bush, Williams, the draft, the saints - all that - and look at it this way: Kubiak - the guy you are talking about 'knowing more than us' - clearly has no confidence left in Carr. His own coach. Kubiak is deathly afraid of Carr screwing up again. He plays him not to give the game away. Take all the other crap that's been argued back and forth here away and that still becomes painfully obvious. Forgetting that it's even Young for a moment; look at the Titans. They sucked. Early in the year, when they were shuffling QBs, they were horrible. It IS a team game, but your QB makes a HUGE difference. And when he clearly can't make a *difference* - rather than just have a good game when he doesn't **** up too bad - and your own coach adjusts everything to take the game out of his hands; then you have a MAJOR problem. You know what? Carr could possibly go somewhere else and actually have an impact. I'm not even going to rule that out. But for whatever reason, it's just not going to happen here. It's time to admit it, man. I think we have to move on.
I love the argument ths argument- Carr is not that bad since Kubiak the genius thinks he's salvagable. and the play calling sucks and is holding him back, Isn't Kubiak calling the plays (he's the head coach)
Fixed that for you... I started a thread a few weeks ago suggesting that Kubiak had already made his decision and given up on Carr. I don't even think that's an opinion anymore, it's a fact. Carr won't be here next year. Draft a QB this summer (Kolb or Smith), let Sage hold down the fort until the rookie is ready to take over. Assuming Sage isn't a diamond in the rough ala Rome, that is.
After this year there is only 4 million of the bonus left to pay. So if dropped after this year we only take a 4 million cap hit. We might be able to trade him for a 4th or 5th round pick though.
Do ya'll think Coach Kubiag is gonna fess up and admit he was wrong about David Carr? I think he thinks Carr is done but can't say anything because there might be a situation where he is traded and you don't want to do anything to lower his stock anymore. Imagine if Kubiag drafted VY, every game would be unbelivable to attend.
I posted this in another thread, but I really believe that Carr can be traded for a player that is either riding the pine or in the doghouse on a current NFL roster. I'm thinking someone along the lines of Cedric Benson or Sean Taylor.
I think Chicago could use a Carr - can't lead your offense anywhere, but won't be the TO disaster that Grossman is. Move him for a 2nd rounder and I'm ecstatic. Carr has to go - we're WASTING a fantastic duo in Andre and Moulds with a QB that can't deliver the ball. He's only good so long as he gets full protection and he's being tightly managed by the coach. Evan
Assuming Carr is gone, do the Texans go quarterback via draft, or free agency/trade? From what I'm seeing, there are absolutely no quality FA quarterbacks this year. Aside from Brady Quinn, are there any that stand out in the draft? Brian Brohm? Crap...last year was the perfect year to have a need at quarterback! It would be pretty funny if the Texans used their secodn round pick on Troy Smith... = Vince Young lite.
Guys, if Carr is the sole reason why this team has sucked for 5 years, no way in hell we are gonna get a 2nd round choice muchless a 7th one. Don't blame him for the failure of this franchise and beleive you can get ANY value for him.
