The thing is, the guy didn't even look that fast to me, but I never said he was the fastest in the world....only in the NFL.
Oh, I'm not busting on you, Eddie, just those silly announcers for saying it. If he won the NFL's fastest man competition or something like that, that would be one thing. But instead, talking heads like Theisman and Paul Maguire (who, IMO, has one of the lowest insight/outspokeness ratios in the NFL) hear some dumb, pie-in-the sky number like 4.17 secondhand from the team publicist (which is pretty much impossible, as HP's posts proved) and repeat it without doing any fact checking or anything, like a real journalist should do. Is he the fastest man in the league? Possibly. But not cause somebody told somebody that he ran a 4.17.
FWIW, Back when they had the "NFL's Fastest Man contest", the fastest time ever was (allegedly) Darrell Green's 6.09 over the 60 yard distance. Also, FWIW, his website claims that his best ever 40 was 4.17 (odd how many of the uverified times are at this range, right where HP's "fantasy" 40 time of the worlds greatest splits combined comes out), but that he clocked around 4.5 in pads.
Just to add to the NFL players with supposedly faster times than track superstars, Randal Williams, a WR for the Cowboys, supposedly had a 4.04 in the 40 in last year's training camp I believe. I'm sure we had some bad timers who were probably off maybe .4 or .5 seconds. 3.55 is much more realistic. I bet Jerry Jones was timing it.
A little off topic, but did any1 see that nike commercial w/ the african, im fast guy? he says he doesnt need the shoes and maybe u do, then it says like 3:57 mile time!!!?! thats crazy i never heard that any1 could run the mile in under four, could it be true or is nike just promoting
Roger Bannister ran the mile under 4 minutes over 40 years ago. Even though, they normally run the 1500m run now (aka the "metric mile") instead of the mile, I am pretty sure that all the world-class milers of today can run one under 4 minutes or else they won't be able to compete.
Wow. I need to keep up with HS sports better as the last time I kept up with it for TN, the winning times at the state were always in the low 4 minute mark (like 4:15). Maybe TN is behind (like in a lot of other things , *ahem*, education) in this compared to other states. BTW - Behad, I bet you and DoD remember that day that Roger Bannister broke the 4 minute mile mark!
Anyone else want to choke the young kid they have that offers to race anything/everything (in another one of the Nuike commericals for the same shoe). Don't know why but I just want to choke hime (but sounds like I couldn't catch him anyways!)
From a cosmetic standpoint, and not that this should matter to Boston because he's rich and famous, but I would bet 80% of chicks would prefer a muscular 6'3" 208 to a freakish 6'3" 260.
There is a special place in hell where someone evil is forced to watch The Nike "I'll race anything" kid commerical and the new Dr. Scholls "Gellin like a Felon" commercial for all eternity.
Moe- Teyo looks to be the real deal, once he gets used to playing the position he will be a excellent TE. Fargas appears to be a steal as late as we got him and his speed will be a real weapon. His pass catching ability is the big question. He could surprise alot of people this year. Defensively, I am slightly concerned about applying pressure on the QB. With the loss of Upshaw and the uncertainty of Trace Armstrong injury wise, I am a bit nervous about Brayton and Williams' because of them being rookies. However, the secondary looks good. If Buchannon is as good as he looked before the injury last year and Woodson is back to %100 we will be very good again. San Diego lost alot defensively with Seau and Harrison. Getting Boston was a good move, but they are going to need him because they arent going to stop many good offensive teams especially in that division. Seau may have been old but he was the heart of that D.
I would love to tie a steak around his neck, drop him in a lion cage at the zoo, and tell him to race those cats for a couple hours.
The last high schooler to run a sub-4 was in Webb, last year or so. http://www.dyestat.com/rivals/8095974.html But before that, there was a drought dating back to 1967. I think the reason for the drought might be that they just don't run as many real miles anymore...rather 1500s or 1600s.
heypartner, Didn't you run a mile under 5 minutes at one time in your life? I thought I remembered reading that here. After meeting you at the Smeg thing, you look like a distance guy.
