I have seen his specials all fake! Yes he very talented at trickery but thats it,and if you have seen his specials they have had another special giving all the secrets to ALL his tricks even levitation. The only thing that impressed me is him getting out of those native villages alive after doing those tricks to people that may believe he was evil. Now I have seen some amazing things on Discovery or even on Ripleys Believe it or not but thats different that is not magic or Illusions. Three words:MIND OVER MATTER ------------------
Is that the same power that allows Bob* the occasional Long post ------------------ "It's incredible to see how he [Mobley] can beat his guy one-on-one every time. That is a tremendous talent. The combination of Steve and Cuttino, I think, is wonderful in the backcourt." --the Dream
No I just watched Lord Of Illusions to many times Dont get me wrong I love all this fake crap too! ------------------
Dont humans use only 3% of their brain? I've heard if u practice and meditate hard enough lots of spooky things are possible. ------------------
That's not true. First off, the oft-quoted figure is 10%, but that's not true, either. It's just something that someone made up that ended up getting repeated as if it were true. 1) Brain imaging research techniques such as PET scans (positron emission tomography) and fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) clearly show that the vast majority of the brain does not lie fallow. Indeed, although certain minor functions may use only a small part of the brain at one time, any sufficiently complex set of activities or thought patterns will indeed use many parts of the brain. Just as people don't use all of their muscle groups at one time, they also don't use all of their brain at once. For any given activity, such as eating, watching television, making love, or reading, you may use a few specific parts of your brain. Over the course of a whole day, however, just about all of the brain is used at one time or another. 2) The myth presupposes an extreme localization of functions in the brain. If the "used" or "necessary" parts of the brain were scattered all around the organ, that would imply that much of the brain is in fact necessary. But the myth implies that the "used" part of the brain is a discrete area, and the "unused" part is like an appendix or tonsil, taking up space but essentially unnecessary. But if all those parts of the brain are unused, removal or damage to the "unused" part of the brain should be minor or unnoticed. Yet people who have suffered head trauma, a stroke, or other brain injury are frequently severely impaired. Have you ever heard a doctor say, ". . . But luckily when that bullet entered his skull, it only damaged the 90 percent of his brain he didn't use"? Of course not. Also, there is the entire logical fallacy of the whole thing. Even if the 10% thing were true, it wouldn't necessarily mean that tapping into the remaining 90% would result in some sort of supernatural powers. Such a statement is akin to saying that if only we could tap into the power of our Appendix, we'd all be able to fly. I work @ 47th and Broadway (three blocks away from where he's entombed). I'm going to check him out @ lunch. I'll report back later. ------------------ 'Deeds, not words, shall speak me.'
How about when he threw the deck of cards up aganist a NY store windown, all the cards fell down, and on the other side of the widow one card was stuck to it. The card stuck was a card someone had picked. The Store was closed. whew! ------------------ humble, but hungry.
My point is you can't know for sure to be so dismissive. On the special about "De-Bunking David Blaine" or whatever, their answer for EVERYTHING was that "something was done off camera." Well, what about the stuff he did LIVE with Peter Jennings during the New Year's Eve 2000 show? Jennings, a well-respected journalist, freaked out when Blaine did crazy stuff like that ash thing where he asks someone to think of a person and write it down where he can't see, burns the paper it was written on and uses it on his arm (just by fanning it over it) to write the name of the person. He also did an Oprah show and REALLY freaked Oprah out with some of his wierd card tricks. Stuff where his cards ended up in HER SHOES even though the first time they met was when he walked onstage. The point is, to be able to do some of the complex and unbelievably bizarre tricks without magic, it would take unreal planning to pull off. He would have to get permission from every store, every show and people everywhere he worked to set things up beforehand. It would be a logistical impossibility to do so live. I just think we all need to stay open to the possibility. Why is it so hard to imagine someone doing something we never thought was possible before? We used to think the world was flat. We used to not believe that atoms existed - in fact, we used to think that everything around us is solid, but now we know EVERYTHING, at a sub-atomic level, is in constant motion. Part of the real joy of being alive is marveling at the wonder of it all and not knowing for sure. Why be closed off to the possibilities? ------------------ Time for a new cause.
Hmmm.. if that's the case, then I think he has a chance. If his skin is touching the ice, though, no way. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
Okay, here is what I saw. He is incased in a "bubble" within the ice. There is about 4 to 6 inches of space all around him. He can turn around, turn side to side and bend down to pick things off the floor. There are three small tubes going into the ice, a catheter for excretions, one for water and one for air. Now I don't know if this is true and he denies it, but some are saying that warm air is being pumped into the bubble for his "air". Something I did find interesting is that when he was encased yesterday, he was wearing boots, jeans, and a knit cap. Now when I saw him just now, he was wearing a sweater. I don't know if he took it in with him or it "magically appeared". He did not look like he was suffering as he was looking around, smiling and acknowledging the crowd. I thought he might be going into some sort of mental trance. But this was not the case. It didn't seem that impressive to me (o well, maybe I am becoming a jaded New Yorker). There is going to be a live special Wednesday night at 10pm EST to cut him out. I think its going to be nationally televised. Any questions? I'll try to answer them as best I can. ------------------ 'Deeds, not words, shall speak me.'

Jeff I hear what your saying but Im just trying to let you know however he does it its not as amazing as it seems. I dont know how he does all his spectacular things so I guess some could be real I guess but I dont think so thats just me but I still love to watch same as you guys. I just think if he didnt mind giving up his secrets and you hung out with him he could probably teach you how to do the same things no matter how amazing they might be. I will have to admitt he is the best I have seen in a while! Maybe he is an alien ------------------ President of the why in the Hell isnt Langhi playing club!!!
No biggie. I just don't think blanket assertions make any sense when you really don't know for sure. It is like saying, "Of course God doesn't exist" when none of us REALLY knows for a fact. I think Shakespeare said it best: "There are far more thing in heaven and on earth, Horatio, then are dreamt of in your philosophy." Maybe he IS and alien. ------------------ Time for a new cause.
I find this guy fascinating... I never knew his name until this thread. The only time I ever saw him, and I think this is the guy (looks like him) is he was on some special on CBS or ABC with Leonardo DiCaprio and was doing card tricks randomly in the street. Showed him doing these tricks all over... even in the Dallas Cowboys locker room. Amazing, amazing illusions and tricks... I kept raving to my wife about how cool they were. Fake or not they were mind-boggling... ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Clutch, You didn't hear about last summer when he encased himself in a coffin under 6 feet of water? He stayed there for 7 days. It was amazing. They encased him under the water in a see through case so you could walk over him. Sort of like a see through sidewalk. It was Freaky! ------------------ 'Deeds, not words, shall speak me.'
No, that's usually caused by a temporal shift in the space-time continuum. ------------------ -------------- Did you know? Derrick Chievous sucked. It's true. -- from the ClutchCity.net "Did You Know" sidebar
That one was debunked on another special. They showed on tv how it was done. I hate finding out how stuff is done... it kinda... ruins it. ------------------ -------------- Did you know? Derrick Chievous sucked. It's true. -- from the ClutchCity.net "Did You Know" sidebar
Why are people so amazed at that? I mean, sure, it was a good test of endurance being down there for so long, but the buried alive thing doesn't seem all that amazing to me. He had fresh air pumped down to him and he was given rations of water. Why is it impressive? Is it because he went so long without food? People have fasted for longer than that. Was it the fact that he was confined in such a small space? I'm sure there are many prisoners of war who have spent twice as much (or more) time locked underground inside tiny, cramped cells. Heck, even my great uncle Jebediah can lie on his back for a week. Just stretch out and think of Carmen Electra. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
If you go to his site you can watch video from his previous 2 specials. I'd only recommend it if you have broadband. The site is quite slow due to the traffic. Ren, I thought I had seen all of the "secrets revealed" episodes on Fox and Discovery. I've never seen any of his stuff debunked. It's one thing when you are on a dark stage with a hidden crew. It's comletely different when it's just you and total strangers on the street. Judging from the reactions from some of those people (looks of fear, screaming, etc) I doubt that it was pre-planned or pre-rehearsed. Plus, if they react like that then it obviously isn't a post-production editing job.
