He's always talking crap about how they should have taken Vince Young. It's old and tired.

The thing Dick doesn't get (IMO) is that he keeps saying that he can "only do his job" and "write what he knows", but if he doesn't attempt to foster some sort of at least neutral relationship with the athletes in this city he won't be able to "do his job" to the best of his ability. He won't be able to get information from athletes that may change the complexion of a story. Instead, he's done nothing but alienate most of the high profile athletes in the city who now wouldn't give him the time of day. in his zeal to be a "real journalist".

Completely agreed rocks_fan. A lot of times also he tends to try to write himself into the articles which is what I was referring to in my initial post. I'm not reading to learn about what Justice thinks, I'm reading for any insights he might have on the team that I don't due to his being closer to the team due to his media credentials.

While I'm complaining about Chron Sports beat writers... why half the time are John McClain's articles not articles? If I want to watch a video, I'll watch the news. If I'm going to the Chron's website, I'm looking to read articles not watch video clips. And posting chat transcripts/recaps? What's the point...

I'm slowly remembering why I'd stopped reading sports news in the Chronicle.

Yeah I agree as well. You see guys like Steven A. Smith, Stuart Scott and others build relationships with athletes therefore you get more inside information from the athletes themselves. Richard Justice doesnt seem to do this therefore his journalism is just mediocre.

David Anderson was poking fun at Dick's self proclaimed nickname "I Am The Media". Does Justice really call himself that?

It was a joke. Back when the Mitchell Report came out, someone called in to Justice's show and accused him of knowing about Clemens doing steroids. Justice blew up and started screaming "THE MEDIA DIDN'T KNOW BECAUSE I AM THE MEDIA AND I DIDN'T KNOW!" 1560 made a sound bite out of that and it's been a running joke since.

I'm not a fan of Justice. I used to read everyone's stuff on chron.com, but then he wrote this crap about Houston wanting to be like dallas or something to that effect. That's when I was done with that dude.

DA's heart was in the right place, and I like that Dick got called out on his writing style, but overall, I thought DA came across as a bit immature in the whole exchange.

    Enjoyable nonetheless.

All I see is a marginal NBA player insulting a marginal sports reporter. Big deal...

Guys, this is Texans receiver David Anderson...not Rockets center David Andersen...at first I thought ya'll were goofing..but I think some of you think it's the Rox DA instead of the Texans guy.

    Completely agree.

If he can "only do his job", then he should do some freaking research. For once. It seems, to Dicky Justice, that "doing his job" equates to writing sarcastic, opinionated drivel that any hack at a water cooler or flipping burgers could write. I've seen one-horse ten-cent weeklies in small towns produce better sports "journalism" than our very own Houston Chronicle. It's embarrassing how these hacks "represent" the fourth largest city in the nation. Embarrassing.

Not impressed with Justice. But I thought Anderson sounded like an amateur Beavis with his routine.
