Andersen wasn't going to get any minutes ever. Thus, a salary dump of his contract is beneficial to the Rockets, and letting him go to Toronto where he might get some playing time is beneficial to him as well. Nice guy and I wish him the best.
The difference is that he had a partial guarantee next year, and his contract would be MORE valuable because of that next offseason. So while this move may seem benficial to all, it reads to me, like a 100% salary dump...and nothing more. DD
I'll never forget Mr. Anderson in the Rockets Christmas commercial. He had as much charisma as an excel spreadsheet. He's a perfect fit for Raptors too. No defense big who's main weapon is outside shot.
1. Losing DA's salary = double savings! What does this mean?!?!?! 2. High 2nd round pick > Late first round pick. More assets yes plz. 3. David Andersen will do better in Toronto's pseudo-Euroleague team than he ever would have on this Rockets roster, playing time available or no. I'd say we did him the biggest favor of his career by first bringing him over from Europe and then shipping him out to a team that will actually utilize his skill set. This one made sense from both sides. Kinda like a Scola SnT for Bosh would have, had Bosh wanted to come here...
Jeez DD, Lay off the caffeine. Half the posts in this thread are yours and they mostly repeat the same thing. It is a dump, but, I like it. It makes the team financially healthier and it opens a roster spot. We still have one more big trade coming, but, I believe closer to the deadline. ROCKET!!!
True, I have had too many starbucks, but Leeb and I took a fair amount of heat for saying not to listen to Morey saying they would pay the Lux tax..... And we still may be wrong, but history suggests otherwise. Morey is a great GM, but he says a lot of fluffy things...... DD
heh, salary dump is salary dump. Has there been any updates in terms of whether the Rockets put in some amount of cash? As well as whether the 2nd round pick is Toronto's or came from somewhere else? I'd be quite surprised if Toronto's willing to give us their own pick.
Crap, does this mean they're going to stop showing Rockets games on Australian TV, and start airing Raptors? YUCK!
Good move by Morey. David didn't turn out to what we expected him to be, and so it was time to move on. Plus it probably means more minutes for Patterson/Hill.
Pretty much confirms that the Rockets management has confidence in Yao's return. Hill can play some spot minutes at the 5 while fighting for the backup 4 spot with Patterson and Hayes. We got rid of Cook. Now we got rid of Andersen. Who is going to be sitting at the end of the bench for us now?
DD, no offense but why the hell are you so fixated on the luxury tax line? The luxury tax is BAD. You're giving free money to your enemies! You're overpaying your players, to tune of 2x their salary! There is no BENEFIT whatsoever from going over the tax line. This trade is a win-win for both the organization and Les Alexander. Most teams PAY assets to shed salary, we RECEIVED assets instead, not just the 2nd round pick, but also a 2.5 trade exception! Its a great move. Although the scope is small, as a trade graded on value its 10/10! If DM can get us under the tax line with such moves, why would you complain about it? DM is full of it, why? Because he's trying get the team closer to the tax line? Les' philosophy to this is probably similar to paying taxes: sure you'd pay it, but if someone gave you tax exemptions you'd take it in a heartbeat. Like I said, its win-win for us, so I can't see why you'd be hating on good moves like these.
