The deal saves $5 million + a pretty good 2nd rounder if there's no protection on it + opens up another roster spot, good deal.
Lol, I thought he was the Afro-Guyanese Channing Frye. Anyway, I don't think he was under any delusions that he was ever more than a borderline roster player in the NBA. And role players on the bubble get shipped w/o notice.
I think it just saves $2.5 million...as next year is a team option.......but it does give us a good 2nd round pick. DD
You do know we traded him to Toronto? They love them International Big's that can shoot and can't defend. They probably begged Morey to have him.
^ This. I wondered the exact same thing when I heard about this trade. Not only did the Raptors take on salary here, but they GIVE up a 2nd round pick to do it. (rockets also get back 2.5M T.E.) Perplexing!
Disappointing that we couldn't get that mega-trade to go down and ship our excess that way. Swapping him out for Miller and picking up what should be a high 2nd rounder isn't awful. Beats waiving him. Yao/Miller/Hill Scola/Patterson/Hayes/Jeffries/Johnson Ariza/Battier/Chase Martin/Taylor Brooks/Lowry
Maybe they value Andersen as a player and are willing to take a chance on for his reamining guaranteed season. Raptors assistant GM was the GM of Bennetton Treviso. Andersen spent the first several years of his Euro career playing in Italy.
With the Rockets over the LT, they would've had to pay Andersen's salary and had to give the league $2.5 million in tax.
This might be reading into this move, but it would seem that Morey expects Hill and Patterson to be getting minutes out of training camp. I mean if they are actually going to start Yao off slowly at less than 25 min a game to start the season, then you have Miller getting 20+ minutes, Scola at 35+, and then rest to Patt-Patt, Hill, and Hayes. That rest would have to be in the 15-20 minute range.
There was no room or need for andersen. Personally i think he played well in some games then was completely absent, he is lacking toughness. Wish him good luck, as he seems like a good individual , and getting a 2nd rounder for him, is why morey is the best.. better to get something rather than just cutting him.
we got a second for that guy! unreal, way to go rox. later david, good luck in canada ey! remember its not coke up there its pop.
Well, kiss my grits...you are correct and I am wrong....I totally misread your point. My apologies. I think the org will get under the tax limit anyway and never count it until AFTER the trade deadline. It is why I think Morey is full of it, when he is talking about Les paying the tax......because history is a good indicator of the future, and I would lay money they get under that tax line. DD
Haha we really must be trying to get under luxury tax. There was no need for David anyways, he's useless if he isn't hitting the 3 ball.
