I don't know how Andersen will turn out. But this is a good reminder for people who assume that if you are Euro big and you shoot 3-pointers, you must be soft and therefore you must be a bad rebounder. Well, Nowitzki is a decent rebounder. Okur is an okay rebounder, just a couple of guys on top of my head.

Speaking about Okur, I know he's with the Jazz so don't flame me. But if Andersen ever develops into something like Okur (without the flopping please), especially on defense, I'll be very happy.

He's really been coming on of late and you can see his confidence growing. Nice thread during the summer, CH, and equally nice to bump it up now.

    Great analysis.
IMHO, Scola's metal toughness and smartness helps making him a decent rebounder in nba. He was noticed as an under average rebounder when we traded the draft pick from Spurs as I remember. Now no one argues he's decent. He plays like stealth in the offensvie end then grabs those rebound like a theif. Not like Chuck and Landry, he plays a different style. He's tricky, sometimes dirty, but I like that.
Andersen maybe a good rebounder in Europe but I didn't see his skills so far. He had hard time doing box out. He got push and push under the basket and often lost balance. Anyway, both Yao and Scola were also that bad in their first nba season. Hope he adjust the game very soon.

a biased conclusion from wrong sample.
Look at the same data in the last 5 years including this year:

    Andersen

    2005/06 EURO 10.9
    2006/07 EURO 9.2
    2007/08 EURO 9.9
    2008/09 EURO 7.9
    2008/09 ACB 6.9
    2009/10 NBA 8.7

    Scola

    2005/06 ACB 9.5
    2005/06 EURO 9.1
    2006/07 EURO 8.6
    2006/07 ACB 9.3
    2007/08 NBA 10.6
    2008/09 NBA 11.7
    2009/10 NBA 12.8

An apparent trend on Andersen is he peaked in term of the rebounds long time ago. Maybe it is because Andersen is more affected to the league or team he played. In contract, Scola is more consistent. Considering the fact that scola took more loads on the offensive end and be more efficient on shooting, it doesn't make sense to compare them now even they had similar rebounds in euro league.

Hopefully Andersen could gain confidence and pick up his game this season.

I've been impressed by his rebounding recently. The first few games he was pushed around so easily. Now, he's actually grabbing some tough rebounds. He also done a much better job on defensive rotations, as he can somewhat hold his position and isn't clueless on the pick and roll like he used to be. Hopefully he continues to improve. We need all the contributors we can get.

Scola has always boxed out well. He is also rugged and tough which helps with his rebounding. I think Anderson is a lot better than a lot of people were expecting. Most of Morey's picks have turned out to be much better value than what he had to spend on them.

For being the fourth guy off the bench, I ain't hatin' on Andersen. He's gotten shoved around a great deal by stronger players, but he hasn't backed down or played timid. He hasn't been afraid to work in the post, either, although he doesn't get a lot of plays called for him (most 9th men don't).
