This guys seems good more than the crap out there. Why not give it a try ?His video seem alright ,he moves so fast to be a center ,if i was morey ill sign him.
S&T for him. He would be relatively low risk since we wouldn't be signing him TOO much. However, he obviously wants more than just the minimum. We're desparate, aand while I would prefer a younger center, I think this is quite a low risk move.
Neilson doesnt really play as a true C, he has a better face up game and would be more like a poor mans Scola.
As an Aussie probably have a bit more of seeing him than some. It has pretty much been summed up here, he has good offense, great range for a 7 footer and quite agile as well. He certainly is not a big boards guy but remember Euro stats are a lot lower than NBA stats his defense while not the best is certainly not terrible. As I posted a while back when this option was talked about, I do remember he expected a lot of money to play in the NBA, as he is paid a lot in Europe. I don't think the risk is worth taking for more than 1.5 mil and I think he wants more than that, unless he has decided he just wants to play NBA to prove himself and doesn't care about the money anymore.
Hehe, nice to see Aussie players getting credit (um. dunno about Newley though). When i was in primary school (australia's equivalent to elementary school) the Sydney Kings came to coach our school's basketball team (ie was in it). It was such a let down because it was only two of Sydney King's scrub rookies i've never heard of that trained us. Hehe, it's funny that one of them (Nielson) developed into a Euroleague star. I'm all for Anderson, if it is for the right price. I hope he can put aside the $$$ and think about improving his game by comign over to the NBA.
Now that we had reaped the benefits of stealing the #56 pick draft rights in 2002 from the Spurs and brought in Luis Scola, why shouldnt we just follow suit and manage to steal the analogous #37 pick draft rights in that same year from the Hawks? This dude wont cost us an arm and a leg anyway. Might be another pleasant surprise to the Rockets.
My favourite europian team is CSKA. I haven't seen a tons of Euroleague matches recently... but I think Andersen is not a great player. I don't think he would help our team so much. Of course we need size so if he's cheap get him!
Don't believe I said I was the most informed. I said I have seen more than some, like the majority of this board who are not CSKA or Barcelona fans, unless this doubles as a Barcelona fan site and I was unawares! Sorry did I write it wrong?
Oh and BTW. One we get Euro games on tv here, so yes I have seen him play games for Barca. Secondly I dare say I have seen more Australia games than a CSKA or Barcelona fan. Where is the competition greater? I would say International.
I had been thinking about Andersen for awhile, from all the scouting reports, he's basically a sieve on defense and a non-factor on the boards, but has a great stroke from the outside and is fairly comfortable in the pick and pop. With Yao here, I thought he'd be a terrible fit, but considering the need for offense, and the shifting of the team from an inside-out low post centered game to a pick and roll, 3point bombing small-ball team. According to Draftexpress, Andersen's making about 2M Euro per year right now; so it's not going to be cheap to sign him; I believe that's equivalent to a $4.28M salary in the U.S. Assume he takes a pay cut, and you're still looking at around Scola money, 3yrs, $9M. Is he worth the gamble? You're definitely not going to get him to come here for less; he'll already be hard pressed to cover his relocation costs and buyout with this deal.
The dollar isn't doing that bad. 2M Euro is about $2.79M. http://www.dollars2euro.com/ConvertAmount.aspx?FromCurrency=EUR&ToCurrency=USD&Amount=2.00 Unless you're talking about the net vs gross business, which I don't know too much about. Though I remember an article about Josh Childress that said that he did have to pay taxes, it's just that his club computed that into his offer. So I don't know how much of the net/gross difference is hype/misinformation.
Yeah, I was assuming that the 2M was net; 65% of 4.28M is the 2.79M figure. Can't find the link, but I thought that he wanted the full mid-level from the Hawks when he was 27, right before he signed his new contract. Could be wrong though. Regardless, he's not going to be cheap, and has a whole lot less of a pedigree than Scola did.
