I'd much rather have Mike Miller since we need a player that shoots well that can get the most out of the least shot attempts.

I'm still interested in Artest. It just all depends on what we'd have to give up....

To me, this really does predicate on him signing and extension. Because 1-year rental is not worth Brooks. But an extension at a reasonable amount changes everything. 3-4 years of Artest is worth it.

As for chemistry, Adelman's the perfect coach for someone like Artest. I'm sure he signed off on Artest if Morey's attempting this trade.

Brooks is NOT a deal-breaker but don't be niave enough to forget he IS a young player making little money who is showing some real potential. You don't just throw those guys away.

If Mike James could effectively man the PG position for 10 minutes a night, he would be. He hasn't shown one ounce of ability to run the team, play Adelman's offense nor be able to hit shots. His poor play allowed Brooks to get a chance in which he has taken the opportunity and has run with it (so to speak).

One aspect that has not been mentioned (much) is that, even if Artest and the Rockets cannot work out an extension this summer, the Rockets would have Artest's BIRD RIGHTS. This would allow the Rockets to SIGN-AND-TRADE Artest to any other team in exchange for something else of value.

I like Brooks, but he should not be keeping the Rockets from making a "2004 Rasheed to the Pistons" type of deal. I just hope that the other pieces don't include Shane or Scola.

I think I've found the source of this rumor. Blog entry by the Kings beat writer.

That does sound very interesting: Battier and Artest defensive duo. What perimeter player wouldn't have fits? That would be an awesome match up against the likes of Dallas or any other team with "soft" fours.

But I disagree about Battier having better perimeter defense than Artest. I think the major difference between the two is Battier is a great team defender, Artest more of an individual defender.

After learning about the rule where Artest can't be re-signed until the offseason, I wouldn't pull a trade for Artest right now for any players in the rotation.

I would give up Luther, Francis, Snyder, Novak, James, and/or Hayes. Take your pick.

Of course, the Kings won't bite, so wait for Artest to sign here for the MLE (he's stated he would sacrifice a lot of money to play for a contender).

whoever says dont do the trade, you guys are serious fk$#)(%*$#)(in NUTS! You know how F)(&$#@)(#@ good artest is? He is almost a superstar level that will help us get over the hump. Teams like Utah cannot even touch the rockets if artest is on our team. Brooks for artest? OMFG, close your eyes and pull the trigger. Watch the winning effect into play. If we don't do a trade, I seriously doubt we can even make it into the 2nd round. We don't have a closer. Tmac skills are diminishing day by day. Yao is a sotfy who gets TOs off every other double team. Artest can actually push us to our limit. Just imagine him as Maxwell v. 2.0

I'm convinced in this day and age, big name sources (ESPN) don't want to get scooped by blogs...so now mainstream media reports blog speculation to 'keep up'.

And I'm sure some blogs skim through fan message board sites. To test this theory, Bucher will report this in 24 hours: SNYDER FOR ARTEST. JAMES FOR ANDRE MILLER. END OF MESSAGE.

BTW, I mentioned in another thread how Cowherd from ESPN kept saying a Caron Butler for Odom trade was in the works.

I know he's young - I love Brooks. But I also know that he's not exactly the next Steve Nash or Jason Kidd. Mike James fell out of the rotation because he couldn't shoot straight and our offense was reeling. People quickly forgot the torrid pace he started the season with, and just remember the slump he fell into. Do you also not remember the slump Rafer was in? That's a pretty distant memory now that he's been playing well. I would want Brooks over James, but not if it means I lose out on getting a bona fide stud in Ron Artest. My point was everyone here is clamoring for a backup PG - even though we have Brooks. Yet when Brooks name is brought up in trade talks, everyone flips and says what will we do without him?! Well.. you've been wanting to replace him in the rotation prior to this. Just trying to put my perspective on this.

i would say no if it's involve scola...

don't be so high on Artest just because he had ONE good game against us.....he only show up at game when he wants to..and not put 100% effort in every game

if i were negotiating for the rockets i wouldn't budge on these 2 points:

    1. shane isn't available. if ron goes nuts and is suspended or leaves this summer, we still have a wing defender.

    2. brooks is only available if A) no other rotation player is touched. B) ron has agreed to a reasonable extention or at the very least waives his right to opt out this summer. and C) you have to take mike james with him.

remember, the kings are so high on brooks that they considered taking him with the 10th pick last summer.

An Artest acquisition could potentially be Rasheedesque cerca '04 for the Rockets. I hope some of you aren't foolish enough to feel complacent with this recent 9 game win streak against the weaklings of the league.

Very disappointing if Aldridge is just regurgitating a blog posting.

I honestly doubt a trade for Artest is going to happen. Too many unknowns and risks possible with the trade and with him.

I am ready to have egg on my face and eat crow if he is traded to the Rockets though without giving up significant players in return.

    Ah, I hear ya.

I'd absolutely hate giving up Brooks, but odds are that he will never be the calibur of player Artest is now. But, if Artest bolts in the offseason, you just traded a good, young, cheap player away to have a player for a few months. Plus, we see how much better Rafer plays when he has a capable back up not only allowing him to rest some but also pushing him to be better. I would love for James to fill that role in such a scenario, but he hasn't played well for the beter part of two seasons. Remember, he was outed by another rookie PG last season partly due to his poor shooting and now fitting in with his teammates.
