is there any way we can make artest sign an extension and trade at the same time, or will we have to wait till the season is over for artest to make a decision????

from what I've read is that they cannot talk about contract extension till after the season is over? How weird is that.

I'm pretty sure you can talk contract extension before making a deal because you can talk contract extension during the season.

Kurt Thomas to the Spurs for Brent Barry, Francisco Elson, and a 2009 first-round draft pick?!? Wow, I guess no Artest for the Spurs now... Is it really going to be between us and Denver?!

Which does everyone prefer? I prefer Mike Miller over Ron Artest, but each would be a good addition. What do yall think about McGrady playing some minutes at PG?

    T-Mac PG
    Artest/MM SG
    Battier SF
    Scola PF
    Yao C

Do you think TMac, Artest, or Battier could guard Parker, CP3, or Nash in a 7 game series? Just wondering. I think with that team we could still go small if need be also. I just hate to see Battier lose minutes but I gues Artest is just a bigger, stronger, more volatile version of Battier. I dont think he can shoot as well but he defends as well and is a better scorer.

McGrady at PG is insane. Battier off the bench and Miller/Artest at SF.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if we do this we lose our backup PG (Brooks) and our backup-backup PG (Head). That means we have to rely on Alston for ALL minutes of every game and hope he doesn't get injured???!!! What am I missing?

This was just posted in ESPN Page 2...

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/blog/index?name=simmons&entryDate=20080220

Trade 2B: Houston trades Shane Battier, Kirk Snyder and its 2008 No. 1 pick to Sacramento for Ron Artest and a 2008 No. 2 pick.

Why Sacramento does it: That's a pretty good haul for Artest when he could bolt four months from now -- a valuable supporting guy at a fair price, along with a pick in the low 20s. So what if Battier went to Duke? You can't hold that against him. He didn't know any better when he signed there.

Why Houston does it: The deal knocks them under the luxury tax and makes the Rockets a little more interesting as a title contender -- they could go small with Artest at the 4 and/or run plays for him at crunch time, and he'd give them a fiestiness and an edge they don't quite have right now. The Rockets seem a little soft to me. I'm not saying it's Battier's fault, but he's the best trade chip for them because of his contract and his pedigree. You could always use Shane Battier on your team. I like this deal for both teams, actually.

Hell no! We are not losing our best defender for a half season rental!

Artest is a better defender than battier. And we would be cutting salary with that trade so maybe we could resign Artest.

No, I'm illustrating that there are plenty of minutes available to Battier if he plays well, which he has consistently played well. We won't need to run guys up to 40+ minutes every night, only on occasion as the game situation calls for it. A previous poster stated there would not be minutes to give Battier if we traded for Artest. I'm saying there will be plenty of minutes.

Artest is a better defender than Battier and we would have his bird rights so to assume he is a 4 month rental is a little nieve.

Agreed - but also naive to assume he's a lock to re-sign as well. Gamble with Artest and possibly of extension, or stick with Battier for known amount of years? It is what it is - a gamble.

I can agree with that but I would think that Morrey would do his due dillegence and find out if Artest would be willing to resign in Houston before any trade.

It seems like Houston is just not interested. All Denver talk:
