Another thing about Artest is he keeps the team relevant. Not that a team with Yao and Tracy isn't getting decent coverage, it is.

But with as crazy as Artest can be as a negative, his craziness is also a draw. It brings people to the arena. It keeps ESPN interested, etc.

Granted, that takes a back seat to winning....BUT, the Rockets still haven't won a playoff series in a decade...it'd be great to add Artest and be a title contender for the next few years, or not add Artest and be a title contender for the next few years, or add someone else and be a title contender for the next few years.

But adding Artest, at least thinking we're a title contender, and getting to watch him blow up in some way, could be at least somewhat fun to in the likely scenario we aren't a title contender anyway, for whatever reason...

I understood that clearly. It was just a hypothetical.

As you can see from earlier posts, I am well aware of the fact that they want Brooks.

Anyhow, Feigen is also saying the Artest trade isn't going to happen.

This thread might as well be over. Artest won't be a Rocket.

Thanks for the update. The Kings are probably asking for too much.Probably Scola/Landry and/or a 1st plus fillers.I wouldn't give up either Scola or Landry for Artest.

He does disclaim though that: "Those non-starter demands could come down by Thursday's 3 p.m. deadline. Suddenly, the potential reward has increased. So might the need to take a risk."

And it is true, everyone is just "talking" right now. But, it's still interesting to hear what or who the Rockets are talking about. Some of the best trades are the ones teams don't make, so we'll see...

Watching Artest destroy the Rockets' hard earned chemistry would be entertaining...for a Mavericks fan. For everyone else on this board a different adjective would probably apply.

I totally agree about not wanting him in SA.

You would probably face this lineup at times:

    Parker
    Ginobili
    Artest
    Horry
    Duncan

GQ ran a piece on Ron that i will never forget, not that i subscribe to that magazine, but after reading it, I knew he was a changed man. He spoke of his mother's influence and on baking cakes for his wife . So yeah, He can be controlled. :)

Also, his hip hop sales would increase by 100% in the houston market. My only worry is who will back up rafer? no way he should play 41 minutes when the playoffs come around.

That's me. Been on the show for 3 yrs or so. When kenny smith was on there , I used to have my own theme music. We want EZ by easy-e.

Anyone in their right mind would do a trade for artest for shane and brooks. I mean even if ron walks which I doubt he'll turn down 9m per. Even if he walks, outlaw, childress, smith and deng will be free.

I like Brooks, but I can't think of too many undersized PGs in history that ever amounted to much more than career backups. And Brooks is not just undersized in height, weight wise he is ultra light.

Landry I am torn on, but I am not sold on him enough yet to not consider him in any trade that would improve this team. But I could see him being more of a sticking point than Brooks. I would prefer to move Head in his place too, but just outright dismissing trading Landry for an All Star and amazing defender is irresponsible. And like I said Landry will be on the bench most of the time if Artest was to come over anyways.

The problem with low balling is that often you end up with nothing at all. Sacramento does not have to trade Artest. They will not take whatever crap they can get for him. They obviously want youth and that will be the minimum asking price. In addition, expiring contracts are pretty much a given to be included in the deal.

Less than a year after that article was written, he hit his wife in the head with a frying pan.

Artest didn't change. Don't believe the hype.

I've been thinking about this true... Yes he has speed but what can he do to the elites of the NBA? These are the players you will see in the playoffs..

    Steve Nash,Chris Paul,Deron Williams, A.I., etc..

But going back in history there has only been 1 guy in my mind that has made a difference to a teams success and that was Spud Webb.

I think it's ridiculous that fans wouldn't want to give up Brooks for Artest. Just ridiculous. Artest is one of the best defenders in the NBA and an above average scorer. He's obviously changed since his Indiana days and under Adelman he will flourish again. I think if he has the right motivation his behavior and temperament will be fine.

That's the thing: is it a 3-month rental or a 3-month rental and a ring?

As long as Scola, Landry or Shane is involved, go for it.
