You do realize that all those players have missed significant injury time this year, right? I don't see how that argument is used to take away from Artest's value. The only flaw in Clutch's reasoning at this point is Artest *might* be a half-season rental, whereas Gasol had years left on his contract.

It's his agent that has to do the wink wink. But you are correct, you couldn't trust Artest not to override his agent, fire him, or whatever. Dude is nuts. That's why I think Sacramento, in the final analysis, will be lucky to pull one decent young player plus expirings for him. It is probably Kleiza and expirings vs. Head and expirings for the rights to Artest. I'd up the anty and give up our first rounder if I were Morey. That may be enough to get the job done. Make them a final offer, take it or leave it, then call Memphis and tell them you've got a deal on the table, and make them a final offer. Take whichever responds first.

If it's basically us and Denver trying to get one of Artest and Mike Miller, then the last team to make a deal.........the price goes down, or the deal don't get done.

I don't want Artest, though I suppose I also don't want him going to another playoff squad in the West like the Spurs or Nuggets. I don't know.

I think I'd rather see us play this string out, then move McGrady over the summer to Chicago for Hinrich & role players.

Please correct me if i'm wrong , but could Kurt Thomas be linked to us because of the Ron Artest deal? Could this be a three team deal or even two seperate trades? By us getting a 8 million dollar expiring contract, does that allow us more freedom to resign Artest to more than our MLE this summer without going into luxary? After that, obviously Deke is going to retire and Kurt Thomas is already expecting a smaller contract. We get to woo Kurt Thomas in resigning with us for some 2-3 mil??? HMMM, you see the bigger picture now?

So you think either way we are getting one of the two, with the "loser" getting Mike Miller? Thats a interesting take, lol. I like it. Probably more true than half the crap people are posting.

Actually, I doubt we get either. I don't think Les wants to pay the luxury tax. So, I think we get Delonte West for Snyder, or nothing but possibly a TE for Snyder.

My point is, once the first deal goes down for either Artest or Miller than the price immediately goes down on the next guy. So, nothing may happen. The Lakers established the market with Pao. Nobody is going to overpay right now.

this doesn't make sense...you're basically expecting us to fail do to Tmac's inabilities (which I utimately agree with), but you're willing to pass on a player who has that "toughness" that team misses oh so much......

T-Mac's "inabilities" haven't slowed us down a whole lot so far... and he's only going to get better as we close out the season.

He's been Defensive Player of the Year and All-Defensive First Team. The guy would take our excellent defense to an entirely different level, especially if we could keep Battier. And Ron can go off for 30. You've got your legitimate 3rd scorer. The key is the contract extension. He's certainly worth Brooks.

I haven't read all this thread, but I think the obvious offer is

Kirk, Bonzi, Francis for Artest. If Sacramento says no thanks, throw in a draft pick. If they still say no thanks, we want Aaron Brooks, then wait until the deadline...then, I don't know. If push comes to shove, I'd definitely include Brooks in a deal (I like AB, but don't see why we couldn't just drat another AB next year - DJ Augustin, anyone), but from a negotiating standpoint, the question is if Sacramento is just trying to bluff and has no better offers.

It's hard to imagine Sacramento just let's Artest walk completely, though it would certainly put them well under the cap in the offseason.

yes, for a short-window, artest is the better choice.

but brooks has A LOT of talent to be a starting PG in this league. he's quick (always good for this type of fast-paced game the NBA is pushing for). he can finish around the rim. he can penetrate. he can shoot. and he'll improve his PG skills with more playing time.

unless artest commits to a long-term deal, i will not trade brooks for a one year rental. we don't know how the chemistry is going to change/how he's going to react to getting 11-12 shots a game...
