Artest's value is low right now because he is most likely opting out. Kings would be lucky just to get a first round pick for him from a desperate team.

IMO if they're stuck on this it's because Kings don't want to take back James's contract.

If Thursday passes and Brooks is still here, that's got to be a great confidence booster for him.

This team would have to give up one: Scola, Landry, or Brooks ... in my mind Brooks goes. Maybe Brooks, Snyder, Hayes plus pick? or Battier instead of Hayes?

No way do we give up Crittenton for Gasol.

    Skip
    Artest
    Tmac
    Scola
    Yao

This is a balanced team. Rick gave Spurs good fight with Artest and Bonzi two years, and he sure can do much more putting Yao and Tmac in the mix. With Bonzi,Head,Landry, and probably James coming off bench, we are a rock solid team and versatile too.

    Please make it happen.

    Exactly.

BTW, It's Wednesday. There is going to be a lot of posturing from now until tomorrow afternoon. The closer we get, the more some teams might be willing to let go of pieces to get value. The Kings know that Artest is leaving (opt out), they want to get value for him, even if it is expiring contracts (to equal salary) and a future draft pick. They obviously are looking to get a young player, like Brooks or Linas Kleiza, just like they did in the Bibby deal to get Sheldon Williams.

    EveryONE is tradable. Everybody.

Or, with the deals gone down is it actually a seller's market as teams scramble to keep up with the Jones'?

Are you guys insane? Ron Artest is an experienced basketball player that has some substance to bring to this team. Needed experience, toughness and actual offense and D, and you want to keep Brooks?

You can always draft another PG or trade for another one, but come on you have to be kidding me, especially as strong as the West is and has become recently and you don't even want to give a chance to get much better a shot?

Nope, you're wrong on both counts.

Jerome James is not tradable. Neither is Darius Miles. Nor Stephan Marbury. I could name many others. Not to mention Steve Nash, Lebron James, Yao Ming, and Kobe Bryant.

Supply and demand determine whether it is a buyer's or seller's market. And right now, supply excedes demand. Sure, there may be a few teams scrambling, but if they were scrambling hard enough, the deal would already have been made. Teams are holding their chips until the deadline and LA got Gasol for peanuts. And there are more teams wanting to move dead weight and salary, get cap space and draft picks.

Artest is one of the top 10 players in the NBA right now. This is the type of deal the Rockets need. A tough minded player that is a defensive beast on a team that is winning because of their defense. He is a legit 3rd scorer. And quite possibly the best perimeter defender in the NBA. If we have to give up Brooks, so be it. This years draft will have plenty of PG. If all they are asking for is expiring + brooks + 1st rounder, we need to seriously consider making this deal even if there is no agreement on an extension (although 4 years $40 million sounds good).

You don't understand... Everyone here knows that Brooks is a combination of Steve Nash,Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, and Brandon Roy... That is the reason why we are hesitant of trading him for Artest.

    Sarcasm :D

Luther Head + expirings is all I want to give up for 4 months' service of Artest. I'd even add James/KT swap.
If Artest agrees on a reasonable extension, then that's a different story. But I seriously doubt it.

First of all, we need to look into our situation before pulling the trigger on Artest.

Do we have enough cap room or is Less willing to pay lux tax on artest's extension? Given artest's past behavior, he would probably wanted wells on this team as well. Meaning we would have to sign two players next reason.
(even artest willing to take less, would wells be willing to do that too?)

Will Kings be willing to take MJ and battier off our hands? as MJ or Battier would be the two players that has the size/contract in order for us to pay both artest and wells this off season.

certainly we don't want a half year rental on artest for brooks. we still have to addr our pg need next season. kings would definately take our draft pick too.

There are too many factors beside brooks for artest.

That's not exactly apple to apples.

Gasol has years on his contracts, he wasn't going anywhere after the season was over. He also isn't deranged.

Crittenton, I don't know his game, and he was buried in the Laker bench. Then again Fisher didn't suck like Mike James did so the Lakers didn't have to resort to playing Crittenton more. He was a higher draft pick then Brooks, so I guess we're assuming he was more highly regarded then Brooks in terms of potential. But the catcher is that Brooks is our backup pt guard, while Crittenton was a DNP seldom used player. Lakers had nothing to lose as far as this season cause their backourt rotation was set, but we would be stuck with Mike James as the backup to Rafer. I'm not liking that prospect for us.

The Lakers also had 9 million expiring dollars in one single player they didn't care for, they weren't losing sleep on that one. We have no such player on our roster that has that size of expiring contract to make it a no brainer for rebuilding teams.

It's a nice argument you present, but again, not apples to apples.

He can't agree to an extention untill after this summer. Although some trades are on a wink wink deal, this is Ron Artest. Not the most trusting, loyal player ever.

    Gasol isn't certifiably insane.

This guy is nuts. Passion is good, but it's not like his passion has ever done much for his team as far as winning. The way you guys talk about him(Top 10 player...ridiculous), he should be able to make the playoffs easily with Bibby, Kevin Martin, Brad Miller, etc...

I wouldn't want the clown on my team for free.
