Hilarious! I can picture that in my mind! Furthering that, yesterday on PTI Smith was on and was asked if the Wolves should match the Hassell contract. He said 'of course' etc. To me he isnt even taking into account the monitary aspect of the move. This is the same guy that would applaude the Wolves for matching that terrible contract and then tear down a team like GS for giving Fisher the same terrible contract. True the Wolves are in serious contention but nevertheless they are both terrible contracts.
Well the difference between Stephen A. and DA is ESPN will go to DA for facts, but will go to Stephen A. for factless opinion. I don't know why either. Obviously, like I said before, ESPN is selling personalities instead of getting good people, which is why Peter Gammons will be next... ...and will be replaces with Richard Justice. Oh god, can anyone imagine if that happened?!!? Seriously, I assume pretty much all the females (except Cohn (not because I like her, but because she's a recognizable face who dresses like a floozy), Rachel Nichols (did she even go to college?!?! She's no doubt the worst journalist in the history of television), and the 'hot' ones (Dominguez, etc.)). That means faces like Chris McKendrie and Suzy Kolber or whatever will go. Just wait a year and Kit Hoover will be doing SportsCenter. Hey, since ESPN steals other networks ideas, maybe they will do their version of Naked News! ...with Mia Hamm. Anyway, I thinkt eh real question here is, what happens with DA's brother? Enrique or whatever; I haven't seen him in years. Random thoughts: One thing I'll comment on is that no-talent asswipe (damn, forgot his name) who has been on for about a year; the short one with glasses with a deep raspy voice. When he goes 'How's It' when the show tarts, I just want to turn off the TV. He's trying to get his own catch phrase and it's annoying; he should not be doing sports anchoring.
I think we should begin a Steven A Smith drinking game. Everytime he says "My sources tell me" take a shot. once you get drunk (usually takes SAS about 2 minutes to mention his sources about 10 times) pass out and save yourself the horror of hearing SAS make up sources and rumors. I will honestly say I like DA, not enough to ban ESPn but SAS just sickens me. I hate seeing him on tv and as soon as he starts spouting garbage I have to turn the channel.
I pray for the day that that one-too-many Bratwursts clogs the last remaining milimeter of Berman's circulatory system & he suffers a massive coronary on camera.
Guys playing cards, Stephen Al Sharpton Smith, LIVE BANDS for crying out loud, it's not about sports anymore, it is about entertainment, kind of getting like wrestling.
According to the NY Post, Aldridge could be going to TNT: http://www.nypost.com/sports/18327.htm THAT'S ALDRIDGE, FOLKS! By ANDREW MARCHAND July 30, 2004 -- After being let go by ESPN, NBA reporter David Aldridge could be headed to TNT, according to sources. Aldridge could work as an NBA insider or as a sideline reporter for Turner. The sides should meet shortly. "Aldridge is a well-respected talent, but, in terms of hiring him, it is not something we are prepared to talk about right now," a TNT spokesman said. Aldridge said he didn't know if TNT has interest. (They do, David.) Aldridge, who left the Washington Post eight years ago for ESPN, said he will look at print and broadcast jobs. At ESPN, Aldridge's decline has been rapid. When ESPN acquired the NBA for the 2002-03 season, it made Aldridge its top sideline reporter. However, this year, his role was reduced. Recently, ESPN officials told Aldridge they would not renew his contract. "I'm disappointed, but I'm also grateful," Aldridge said.
Good idea... that, or just don't have a fourth guy. I like Magic and all, and the interviews he did when he was a plyer were really fun to watch because of his enthusiasm and confidence in his abilities. But from what I've seen he's just an abysmal reporter.
Righto. The problem with all these Turner issues is this: DA is a writer. Few are better, assuming any are better, at getting it "right" on paper in the NBA. DA as an in-studio guy, or even a 48-minute color analyst, it's still a waste. I like Chris Broussard a great deal, but the New York Times needs to make DA their main NBA cat.
