If Finch is THE GUY . . .why would this guy come here.
Seems like a Lateral Move with no chance of Promotion
[because Finch is the Coach In Waiting]

Coaching staff won't matter if you don't have enough talent. Hopefully, the Rockets can acquire some talent this offseason or next year's trading deadline.

    1. MONEY
    2. To work with an organization that is high onr analytical data
    3. To build a championship level defense, add to his resume, get to know more people in the NBA, and increase his chances of landing a head coaching gig in the NBA.

I have changed jobs twice and make double what I made before. I still have no chance of being promoted. Maybe coaches are regular people and want more money and better cities too.

He has no chance of promotion where he is at now. If I lived in Memphis, I would want to move to Houston, too. I would only miss the ribs. If the Rockets are offering a raise for him to move also, that's even better.

Maybe Morey is bringing both Finch and this guy in to have them duke it out and see who is the better head coaching candidate after McHale leaves, similar to their philosophy on accumulating talent at one position and letting the cream rise to the top.

This is all about aquiring and surrounding the organization with bright people... something the Rockets have done consistently under Morey. The Rockets scouting department, and front office are very bright... not surprised they would do the same with the coaches.

Getting Dave Joerger doesn't mean Finch isn't going to eventually be the head coach... because Joerger may very well make Finch a better coach.

The Rockets are very much like the Mavericks and Thunder in that way.

Isn't this guy under contract? There is no way the Grizz lets him go to the team in the same division. Its a smart move by Morey though if you think about it. Trying to take their top assistant and getting all the information on the Grizz if we get him.

Jerry Sichting is boys with Kevin McHale and I think he could join the staff. They were former teammates in Boston and Sichting also spent 13 years with McHale in Minnesota.

The obvious conclusion: Finch isn't THE GUY.

Finch shouldn't be lead assistant with no nba coaching experience.

My understanding is he isn't the lead assistant in Memphis, and if another team offers a coach a promotion then the current team must allow the coach to accept if he wants the job.

Feigen reports they are also looking at Kelvin Sampson and Mike Malone. I think they both interviewed for the head coach job.

My guess is when they "cast the wide net", they were looking for both the head coach and people to fill other positions.

Had they hired a Larry Hotdog type, the Elie/Cassell/Sikma type former player may be cosidere to complement the head coach.

Looks like Morey and Les stuck it to the media and the fans this time. This entire interviewing process has been ridiculed from the start and the whole time Morey was really killing two birds with one stone, so to speak. Way to go Morey.;)

I am sorta hoping they could get John Lucas on the staff as well. He to knows how to work with young players.

DH, that is exactly what its looking like to me as well. McHale as a players coach surrounded with tactical Xs and Os types. Then eventually promoting a Finch or a Joerger as head coach down the road.

I hope this story puts to rest the silly notion running rampant on this BBS that McHale is just keeping Chris Finch's seat warm for a couple of years.

The only way that the Rockets are going to get Joerger, Sampson or Malone (three of the most highly regarded assistant coaches in the NBA) is to offer them the LEAD assistant's job. Chris Finch will be no higher than #3 in the pecking order next season behind McHale and (hopefully) one of these guys.

Will Chris Finch be an NBA head coach some day? Hope so. I'm sure he will have earned it.

Will Chris Finch be the Rockets' head coach some day? Possibly.

Has he been tabbed by the organization as the de facto head coach in waiting? No.
