Maybe Chuck works hard on defense? And he has improved on his shooting. This is a strange argument you are making. DD
It is, utimately someone with more natural talent will benefit more from hard work. Chuck can work hard to try and get a jumpshot, but Landry with one summers worth of work will still be ahead of him. all things being equal two palyers with the same work ethic but different levels of talent will have different results.
I think Malone worked harder than barkley. He took care off his body better even if barkley was the more gifted athlete. I remember reading the barkley book and peopl talking about how a guy 6'5 300 lbs could jump over 3 ft gates without a run start. Or you go look at the olympic trials when you see this fat guy grab the rebound, push it up, and come down the lane and dunk on everyone. 6'4 300 lb guys aren't suppose to do that. Now Mailman was a gifted guy also, but he worked to the point that he stayed at a elite level longer.
I think Chuck has a jumper but doesnt have the confidence in it to shoot in the game. I read somewhere that at Kentucky he had a very respectable shot but over time just lost it. If the Chuckwagon could shoot it would make him so much more deadly on offense. We need to hire a shooting coach just for him.
No it hasn't. Maybe he's gotten better at his little finises around the bucket. Defensively, you get better by watching tape, keeping strength, and keeping your foot quickness. Hayes has been a good defender since coming into the league, he's just getting more minutes and not getting foul calls on the mailman strips. DD, MD and i were talking about guys working ward on their games. He said just because you work hard, you don't get results and we got into the working hard and smart stuff. I'm just saying that when you have talent and work hard you see results. Thats why we see some guys take off and and some stay stagnant. I can sight guys all day with the same talent and we see some guys that never get better or just stall. Thats just staright hard work. Now they may have worked hard to get to the nba and acheive some level of success, but to get to the next level requires another level. Like kenny and i used to talk about, "its hard to work hard when you sleep on silk sheets." Thats the truth and most guys just get content with what they are. Durvasa, i was talking about charles oakley.
Uh, he's hitting 55% this year as opposed to 35% last year, and in fact has already made more FG's than he did all of last season, while taking 30 fewer attempts. Looks like he's doing better shooting-wise to me.
Do you happen to know what offensive drills Hayes works on? Does he do shooting drills at all? My impression is that the Rockets consider him a lost cause as far as shooting goes, and they are telling him to focus on other things.
Free throws, mid range and post. He did work much harder on shooting when jvg was here (then again they ALL did) . He is a good shooter in drills. He can hit nba threes easily too. Of course it all changes when the game starts but yea he can shoot better than you think.
Thanks. And I heard he was a regular, working on his game thoughout the summer as well. I take it that includes free throws and the midrange shooting. Maybe if he keeps at it, he'll eventually be able to work it into his repertoire in game.
