Someone has probably mentioned this...but it's clear that Morey couldn't and wouldn't tank...Les wouldn't approve of having a team like Philly. It would be interesting to see what Morey would do with top 3 picks. i doubt we'll ever see that though....Les would probably fire him, rather than give him that opportunity.

Morey doesn't have a great record picking in the first round. Personally, I think Les saved Morey from making bad picks. I like Morey as a Poacher.

I'm not sure why some think acquiring a veteran head coach in the middle of the season is easy or common. As much as some of us like the idea of Thibs or JVG coming in, they're looking at are current situation more objectively than we are, as fans. JVG isn't going to come into a broken situation, mid-season, when he doesn't have the time to put his own methodology into play. The same goes for Thibs. Coaches want the same time as Kevin got before the season, so that their results are valid and so that they are critiqued from a clean slate.

If any vet coach were hired instead of JB, they would spend this entire season cleaning up, and I'd wager that the majority of coaches want to start their position with a full 82 games. We're actually lucky to have JB and Finch in control. Buck is no slouch, either.

Even with the loss last night, J.B. is not even close to McHale. He is much more introspective when it comes to examining mismatches, different rotations and general strategy.

Just because he comes from a similar lineage to Kevin doesn't mean he follows the same coaching philosophy. He was forced to go along with Kevin's coaching for the last couple years, just like the majority of assistant coaches do when they're nearing their first head coach gig. I respect him for his loyalty to Kevin, but I think it's unfair to say he's doing things exactly the same, or that he is a step down in talent at the coaching position.

I agree. Team is going nowhere and this is all because Morey thinks coaching doesn't matter. Cant wait till he gets fired and his annoying fans can follow him too.

He'd trade for a cache of Batters or draft high risk types be it injury or otherwise because of his all or nothing philosophy in landing star players.

Well said. However, a qualified candidate that would pass on an opportunity to coach a team (halfway into this season) that just reached the WCF (some losses only by a few points to the Champs) with almost all of its roster, the addition of a borderline All Star pg + Thornton/KJ, Championship Veterans, 2 superstars that support an inside/out game, players with significant playoff experience, and quality ownership/management would be surprising to pass up for the risk of blemishing their coaching record considering that they would likely be in a long term contract and the upside of being a contender this season is still possible...

If such a candidate were to take on a primarily young team with significantly less experience/talent and or an organization conducive to losing then i would agree to a greater extent.

So you think a blow out loss is going to force change? It's dumb. It's silly to think Morey is sitting on his hands thinking this season is awesome. There will be a change at the deadline. Probably a coaching change next season too (Unless JB wins a championship lol).

Wishing your team to lose is dumb.

No it's not dumb , this isn't the same team. They don't have until deadline something needs to be done now or just play for a lottery pick next yr. As a fan for over 35 yrs we don't deserve to see a product like this we expect more out of this franchise!! Playing with no heart , no leadership and making a quick move to fire a coach and show no answers for it is unacceptable!!

I do think Morey is under more pressure than he has been, but that is just a perception based upon Les' comments.

Morey has about 1 month to get this together or I can definitely seem him getting fired. His philosophy, his players, and now no coach to blame. He should really be feeling pressure.

Not just that, the arrogance with how he flaunted his philosophy. You need some ****ing direction out there. Sure shooting the 3 is efficient, but you don't just go up, camp the 3pt line and chuck away. Its pick up ball out there...and thats why a team with James Harden, Dwight, and a good supporting cast is getting owned out there.

Morey should stop getting players based on solely talent but based on character. Thats the player acquisition strategy of the spurs. One can clearly see that this team clearly lacks character. Harden is one of the guiltiest ones out there.

You do know there was question mark next to Kawhi's character during the draft right?

Some poster went to the Nets game and said Morey was facepalming throughout the whole game. That screams immaturity, spoiled, and pretty damn sure he doesn't hold himself accountable.

Well, George Karl last year, D'Antoni a couple of years ago in LA, it is not uncommon - it happens.

Why waste an entire year? Find out now - don't just settle because you think that is always the way it was done, try doing what is right for the team now - all they can say is no.
