No, I am not saying fire the guy, but he has blown it several times, signing Ariza, Dorsey over Jordan to name a couple. And didn't we draft Batum????? Either way, Daryl gets a solid "B" from me......but I don't believe he is that good at evaluating talent. Rudy Gay is looking pretty good these days...too. DD
With us and the knicks being better than expected the worse case scenario is playing out. We are destined for a first round exit and a sh!tty draft pick and any shot the knicks had of not making the playoffs seems to have died also giving us a sh!tty draft pick. >_<
Lin has made the Morey front office look very very bad, scoring 20+ points his first 3 games, then another 38 points tonight, the most by a Knick this season even with Carmelo and Amare on their roster. I winced when they cut him because I knew the Rockets would regret it, as did many other fans who followed Lin throughout his career and knew he had skills. So Mr. Morey, WE knew he was good, and we are NOT "MISLEADING" you per your insulting tweet. In Lin, we had an NBA star on our roster who could have taken the baton from Yao Ming and continued the Asian following the Rockets had but was losing. Instead, the Rockets have completely lost their Asian fan base by passing on Lin, and thumbing their nose at a star who happened to have a potentially huge Asian nation following, and he was in their own camp. Jeez. I bet you Leslie Alexander, who thinks about all the marketing dollars he could have continued to make from Asian advertisers, is really pissed. If he isn't, he should be. This is the same GM (Morey) who wanted to trade 3 good players, who have helped give the Rockets a better record than the Lakers, for a mediocre Pau Gasol. When Stern nixed that trade, I thanked God that he saved Morey and team from its own stupidity. These jokers look way too much at stats and numbers rather than looking at who has heart. Great evaluator of talent? Give me a break. The only team who looks more stupid are the Warriors, who had Lin for a whole year.
Maybe we "blew it", but I think its more bad luck than something we should attribute to not knowing how to evaluate talent. Sometimes, players just do unexpected things. Morey and his staff have a very solid track record for recognizing talent that others overlook. I just don't think its fair to criticize the Rockets for this. Not keeping Lin made sense, even if the Rockets thought he was better than Flynn and Adrien (and I believe they did).
He signed Ariza, and got Lee out of it. I like how you left that out. Dorsey over Jordan? He blew that one for sure, but so did other teams. You're piling it on Morey when you yourself didn't see any of these things coming, certainly not Jeremy Lin. He's not perfect and certainly isn't close to it, but blaming the Jeremy Lin case on him is ridiculous. They're done a solid job, better than the majority of the league.
A mediocre Pau Gasol? The way Scola/KMart have been playing lately, we would be better off with Gasol imo.
This Lin hype is pissing me off now. I'm not hating on the guy, but this guy is getting more attention away from nba players that deserve it. Can't wait till we play the Knicks and Lowry owns him.
haha. no, you can't do this all day, becase you wasted morey's entire resume in that one brief post, and that's with you including patterson and lee as great moves.
Picture what it would be like over here if when we played the knicks Lin tore up Lowry. I shudder at the thought.
What? It is fair to criticize him when he misses this badly. He gets paid to recognize talent - and he blew it. Everyone makes mistakes, don't you think the Spurs fans regret losing Scola? Sure.....and they still talk about it. Morey deserves whatever he gets for letting Lin go....he had control of him as an asset and let him go......there is nothing else to say really. DD
Let's be honest for one second: If Jeremy Lin had the exact same stat line, the exact same way, against the exact same opponents, with the only difference being he did it on the Houston Rockets instead of the New York Knicks, would anyone outside of our fanbase care? Would the national media have touched the story? You can't bring attendance and money into the discussion. Apples and oranges. Additionally, as had been said before, he would have had 3 guys ahead of him on the depth chart. The ONLY reason he got a shot to do this is that he was picked up by New York who was desperate enough at the 1 to give him a shot. If Baron Davis was healthy or the rest of their options weren't absolutely terrible, do you think he would have been given the opportunity? Of course not. Yes it sucks, but it was still 100% the right move by Morey at the time. Was he supposed to not sign a center? Would Lin sitting next to TWill waving towels while Hill and Thabeet our only options at the 5 help this team sell tickets and win more games? I get the outcry, it's tough seeing him do what he's doing now and realizing he was on our roster a couple of months ago. But please, please restore the sanity folks.
He had control over an asset, did he have control over Stern? Scola and Martin for Gasol doesn't look so bad now as well does it? Especially when we would have freed up a spot for Lin. The Rockets have ran into a lot of bad luck this season. Given the circumstances, sure he could have done better. That's 100% accurate and I agree. Cutting Lin for Dalembert also made 100% sense at the time, with hindsight maybe not so. It's that simple.
