I already mentioned it on another thread however substitutions are also part of tactics. I have no data to back this up but my guess is tactics also become far more important in the playoffs, because the other team already knows what your usual game plan is and you need to come with new stuff on the fly to stymie them.
Perhaps the biggest thing I got out of the interview is the reason for the impact of star players and the concept of possession in basketball vs other major team sports. Hence, the decreased random factor and therefore better teams are much bigger favorites for the championship. I've always told this to staunch soccer fans, that I hate soccer because a team can really outplay their opponent and lose. Whereas in a basketball game, this happens a lot less often. Also his point that a thousand marginal improvements don't even add up to one major improvement. Which is the only problem with Morey's tenure here. He makes many marginal improvements, but no big one. I don't blame Morey, because he's had utter crap to work with. But going forward, he needs to come up with a good way to get that big improvement.
Yeah I'm not sure what Morey means when he used the word "tactics." Is it referring to just on-the-spot decisions made during games, or does it include rotation choices, substitution patterns, set plays and schemes, etc.? He no doubt has the stats to back up his statement, but it would be hard to believe that all these factors would not affect the outcome of games more than a handful of wins/losses, in the regular season as well as in the playoffs.
Orlando is not a top five DESTINATION. It has (arguably) a top five PLAYER, but that's not the same thing. Morey was talking about the city. I also think we ahead of Dallas just in terms of the city, could be a biased Houstonian talking, but I won't apologize for that Chicago, I don't know. They have a lot of history, they're a huge city with a ton of things to do... of course, they don't have as good of a taxes/cost of living situation as we do here.
keri's podcasts are close to the most thoughtful and meaningful discussion going round at the moment, all in all seemed like a great conversation with Daryl, but he was holding so much back and keri new it, and i guess as result that is easily the shortest of Keri's podcasts..... also how disappointing was Daryl's food pick of the week... chick fillet
