Daryl Morey on 790 a few minutes back. - On the TPE DM: Talks about Friday being the preferred TPE deadline. Not set in stone but after Friday it becomes difficult to trade players. Also more tlak right now because players signed in the off season are eligible to be traded after Dec 15th. - On how he would like the trade windows. DM: Talks about 2 week trade windows, one earlier in the season, one in the middle and one at the end. He has brought it up to the league office. - On Denver's game tonight. DM: Denver is already tough with the alititude. Like that we have a couple of days before. Faitigue is always a factor in Denver but we have had rest and hope we can get it done tonight. - ON Dmo playing with Dwight. Can he do it with Dwight on the floor? DM: This may sound funny but DMo Denver game was may be one of my top 10 Rockets favorite moments. Not only did he have his career high but he took a guy in Faried out of the game. To have DMo go into the game and have the other coach take out a guy like Faried out was great. Looks like he has taken a step forward. We won the game, Dmo had a great game, James had a triple double. Most fun game of the season for me along with beating Dallas. Two best moments so far. - On finding guys whose confidence level is professional ready. Where do you put the confidence that borders on arrogance? How important to you when it comes to players you put on the roster. DM: I think it manifests in different ways. Sometimes confidence leads to negative arrogance if it is manifested in the wrong way. Someone like DMo who is very confident in his skills was frustrated he wasn't playing much earlier on. But he manifested with the attitude that he will work harder but we had to telll him that the opportunity will come. His confidence leads into something positive. I would disagree that arrogance is good as it leads to flaws that players may not recognize. - On James Harden defensive transformation. Is it you, coaching, what is it? DM: Most satisying thing. It starts with KM. We looked at different teams, different players to add. KM put JB incharge of the D and said he would get it done. Those two guys came in and said we are going to do these things, study how these better defensive teams play. Credit to KM, JB and TR Dunn as well as Buckner who works individually with the players defensively. - Do you feel like when you;re team is healthy you ahve the type of roster that can make other teams make changes and not you guys having to make the adjustments. DM: Teams have to stop our transition offense. Stop James Harden #1, stop the quick 3's. On a player level you need to have to choose who to double team, have to choose either double team the pick n roll (only way to stop James) but that opens up the shooting. Our transition game hasn't been strong but coach KM thinks our offensive game can rev up. A lot of it has been to injuries. Spent 80% offseason on defense. - On the game in Sacremento, how satisfying to see Harden's performance? DM: James is the MVP of course. Sac game a good example of how we have been winning. Lot of people complain about KM's style of play. IN a game where a lot of our players were tired. We made enough 3's, made enough offensive rebounds and kept us within 10. We kept it within 3-5 and that is when James said we could win this thing and went into total superstar mode.
Thanks, FTW Rockets FTW! That was an informative interview. Are you taking over starting position from J.R. now?
Could be they were told prior to the interview that he would not field questions about trades right now so don't ask.
Thanks for the script! Finally see some credit to TR Dunn. He might not be high in the coaching hierarchy. But to me he was the obvious defensive difference Morey had made in the staff team.
Im very curious as to why so many posters are so hung up on trying to give Dunn most of the credit for our D when EVERYONE has said it is spearheaded by Bickerstaff?
Is it me or was Adam hinting at Dragic rumors toward the last minute when he said it would be nice to have a pg that could run the fast break. I know Adam is a member here.
Excellent insights on DMo taking Faried out of the game. DMo has given us another legitimate scoring option... that may prove to be invaluable in the playoffs.
Humans in general tend to fall into the trap of illusory correlation. Bickerstaff was here last year when our defense sucked and Dunn wasn't, so, since Dunn is the new variable, people initially and mistakenly attribute the improvement to him. Then, since people have a tendency to change their perception of reality to fit their assumptions (instead of the other way around), the find a way to justify maintaining this false attribution, regardless of the facts to the contrary. tl;dr: people are generally dumb and hate to admit they are wrong.
It's a smokescreen tactic. If Dunn gets recognized we lose him. It's funny how bad we were last year defensively and OFFENSIVELY. We get Dunn and both change. Maybe if you stop regurgitating these articles you read you won't be as dumb.
Articles, as in interviews with McHale? What adult in their right mind would let someone else take 100% of the credit for something that would likely be the single biggest boon to their professional coaching career? I'm guessing Dunn is like the one person on earth who would prefer to go along with such a "smokescreen" to avoid being recruited away to a more high-profile, higher-paying position. Really great team player, that guy. Even more impressive is that he arrived just hours before training camp began, and had everything ready to roll out from minute 1. And on top of that, all of the guys outside of the organization McHale says Bickerstaff met with over the summer while developing the scheme -- it's super nice of them to participate in the ruse. Very thoughtful. OR -- and I know this sounds crazy -- McHale could just be telling the truth.
Im dumb for beleiving Morey and Mchale? Why exacty should i assume they are lying? They have to be lying because there is no way you are wrong?
