Of course their bigs beat ours, when you are playing an end of the rotation guy in DMo and a Dleague player in Black, and a guy that should be well out of the league in Dorsey - what do you expect? Who decided to KEEP Dorsey anyway? I like Daryl, but the roster is his baby, he needs to take some responsibility for the mess at the bigs position. There are guys out there that can help and that are better than both Black and Dorsey..... DD
I wonder why Morey didnt make a run at Kaman and his friendly contract. Blazers wanted some more height after playing against Asik and Dwight.
Morey's act is wearing thin, granted being w/o Howard, TJ and Bev for several games is duly noted, but there is S*** depth to this team and the 4 and 5 positions are a god damn mess and joke, and THAT is ALL on Morey. Unless something shockingly unexpected happens in terms of a trade of substance, this team is going to be very lucky to make the playoffs because we have struggled against weak ass teams the last week and it only looks to get worse not better with the trash we have as bench players (Kpap and Terry aside). Also, McHale is just a piss poor excuse for a coach plain and simple he is a dolt out there and is worthless in my opinion.
Not that these guys are star players or anything, but they do get to the basket better than their replacements.
"Friendly Contract" is debatable. Kaman is making the full mid level and has really been a shell of himself the past couple years & can barely stay healthy. Kaman would have cost the Rockets being able to get Papanikolaou, and most people probably would have passed on Kaman on anything other than a vet. min contract this past Summer. Portland made a gamble on him, and so far it has paid off. The Rockets gambled on Papanikolaou. People I think just really don't realize that there is a salary cap, and the Rockets didn't have any significant cap space after signing Ariza. They only get one Mid level exception, and a much smaller bi-annual exception to work with. Despite what people think, good veterans cost money, and typically good teams can only get 1 or 2 a year at the most. The Rockets gambled on Papanikolaou & Ariza. If you want to blame them for that, make that your case.
This. We all know Asik wanted to leave and Rockets want to have the flexibility. But we can still sign some veteran bigs such as Kaman for one year deal to back up DH. Black and Dorsey could be 3rd strings at best.
I'm new to this board. But have been following for a long time. These exact complaints are what alot of ppl on here said before the season. There were alot of Daryl Morey homers declaring this offseason a success and defending signing ppl like Joey Dorsey. Dorsey is a scrub X10. Interested to see what they have to say now
We all knew that Harden and Howard have to play for this team to win. I was hoping we would be blessed with health this season but the reality is both of these guys will likely miss 8-12 games a season for minor injuries. We can't afford that if we want to make the playoffs. I'm still in shock over Dorsey. Is he the worst big man in the league? Sure looks like it.
Yes it does but I am sure Morey will get a trade done sooner than later. Brewer would be a good fit but still need to address the back up C position.
If we can get Emeka Okafor as a backup C, that would be a significant upgrade to anything we have now. Getting TJones and obviously Dwight back will help a lot. Can Morey reach McHale and show him why why playing Canaan/Daniels will improve our efficiency? Our guard depth is solid when they get playing time. Morey's master plan is still upgrading the PF and ideally we can keep Jones and have him off the bench. If he can get Okafor and acquire someone like Millsap, the Rockets absolutely will be dangerous in the playoffs.
I mean look - the roster makes sense if you believe Harden and Howard aren't enough to make us legit contenders(and Morey appears to believe that). The real question here is which scenario gives us a better shot at winning a title in the next 3 years? - A somewhat stripped down roster with flexibility to add another major piece - more depth and above average guys on the roster but no flexibility to sign or trade for a bigger piece. ...the wildcard here is you never know what's going to happen to the other contenders. No one could have predicted for instance that both Westbrook and Durant would be missing out of OKC's big three with Ibaka. We are in an arms race for what the Thunder could be, or what the Clippers could be (if DeAndre Jordan turns into an elite defender & rebounder), or what the Spurs are(when healthy), or what the Cavs could be, or the Bulls, etc. At the moment the title race is looking wide open and it would seem that more above average role players and depth would make Houston a legit contender this year so it's really hard to watch this roster struggle mightily at times. ...but what happens if Durant/Westbrook come back better than ever, DeAndre Jordan figures it out, Derrick Rose stays healthy, the Spurs continue to defy father time, the Cavs figure it out, or Anthony Davis turns into a Lebron James like force in the West? Would a Rocket roster with a little more depth be able to compete?

People talk about how the Rockets are playing backup bigs so of course they struggle. The concerning part is that they were not just overmatched against a good or average NBA front court, they were getting killed by the Lakers front court-- and the Lakers front court gets killed by opposing front courts all season! We talking Boozer, Hill and Special Ed Davis!
Change McHale and the 3 star philosophy. Get Harden and Howard some dependable role players, not the bottom of the barrel scrubs like Tarik Black and DMo...
Both Canaan and Daniels have a lot to learn and I have no problem with what McHale is doing... The game in Memphis, Canaan was playing like he was in the D league... Shooting every single time and not passing to his teammates and he needs to work on defense.. Daniels is restricted on defense and the only thing he can do is shoot.. Every time the team loses it's not McHale's fault, is the man the best coach in the world? NO.... But right now he's doing a great job with the hand he's been dealt.. The crap that Canaan and Daniels got away with in the D league want work in the show... They need to learn and earn their time, not just be giving anything. T_Man
No coach who respects himself will come here, because Morey is going to tell him to have a 3 & D(unk) philosophy and every smart person understands basketball is not about that. I wish Hubie would've had a chance to ask Morey what the **** does he think he's going. They said no team has ever won like that and probably never will. It's just stupid to not use a weapon in a sport where it's so useful and part of the game. That's like instructing soccer players only to shoot when they're inside the box or something, it makes no sense.
Yeah but we were playing the Lakers last night not Memphis. Lakers played the night before and we didn't. You have guys like Harden, Ariza and DMO making silly passes all throughout the game turning into turnovers so what does it matter if Canaan and Daniels get out there and play? The whole team is playing careless free basketball anyway which points to overall team strategy organization wise and coaching.
