Maury's propaganda machine has been effective at brain-washing homers, but even some of the sheep are starting to come around and see the light.
His plan in 2013 worked. He got Dwight. His plan in 2014 blew up in his face. He managed to salvage things for that season with a bunch of smaller deals(and lucking out with Josh Smith). And now his plan in 2015 blew up in his face in part because he downplayed the importance of coaching in the wake of the Portland loss in 2014. I'm just curious what his plan is for 2016. If the name Durant is in any way part of that, he should resign immediately. I want a real plan. One that actually has a snowball's chance in hell of coming to pass.
May I borrow from the movie "Airplane!"? ROCKETS FAN: (to Morey) What's going on? We have a right to know the truth! MOREY: (to fans) All right. I'm going to level with you. The most important thing now is that you should all be calm, because there's no reason to panic. (Morey's nose elongates slightly.) Now, it is true that we have played poorly...slightly poorly. (His nose is getting longer.) But our two stars get along just fine and are in control of the team (Morey's nose is a foot long), free to live a life of religious fulfillment.
Is this true? I am fine with no a big trade in the rockets since there was no a big one in other teams. Every team is on a waiting list right now. "We'll have the ability to offer 2 max deals."
I was tuned in and Woj clearly could be heard in the background "can we get Daryl on the phone". Look he's giving PR spin of course about Dwight and James being a 1/2 punch they didn't want to break up, but he wasn't really lying about anything. What they did and didn't do is pretty obvious. A. They still have a team that "should" make the playoffs & has a background of being very good B. It was important for them to keep an eye on the future without hurting themselves short term (D-Mo wasn't going to be a huge part of the team likely now, and Thornton was inconsistent). C. The Dwight stuff is complicated, but they do like him and want him on their team. They know he's the best they can get at the 5 currently & gives them the best chance to win now. Yeah it sucks that the Rockets didn't do something crazy like trade for Kevin Love or Blake Griffin, but this is just the reality of where we are as a team. We've underperformed so you have to make sure you prepare for the future to improve, but in the short term there really isn't a point in breaking it down unnecessarily. Trading Dwight for what teams were offering isn't a smart move. The only mistake he MIGHT HAVE made was putting him on the market so fans & the media got all hyped up for a major trade that didn't happen. That's really the only issue here. That and the delusional folks here that thought D-Mo was destined for stardom. (I love D-Mo but we need to be more honest about what he showed here in 4 years).
Yeah, who doesn't wanna join a team in turmoil with lousy chemistry, a rookie interim coach, a superstar guard who doesn't play defense, an aging center who has no offensive game outside of 5 feet, and a sub-.500 record?
Centering a plan around Durant doesn't mean we sign him. Durant can go literally anywhere he wants to. If we have the room to take on other team's talent to make room for them to sign Durant that could be a plan as well. Look what the Lakers got from us for taking Lin and we didn't even get Bosh! Morey has succeeded more than he's failed, and maybe we should have fired McHale a while ago, but honestly this team's downfall this year is a lot more on the guys on the court than the guys on the sidelines. Harden didn't bring it, Dwight didn't, and it drops off from there. That isn't coaching or GMing.
Last time I checked it was like 45 mil or so WITH the D-Mo cap hold. Now without the cap hold, and assuming Dwight's rights are renounced, and Lawson is released it should be closed to 48 or 49 million. And that's without renouncing Jones' cap hold (another 4 millionish) and trading other players like KJ, Bev, Ariza, Brewer, etc. So yeah I could def see them signing two players this Summer, and using their MLE.
No offense, but that's a horrible plan. Chase a superstar who doesn't wanna come here and when he doesn't sign with the Rockets, hope that we get some other team's table scraps when they're looking to unload salary for their own free agent pursuits? I'm looking for something more coherent and realistic. For example, we have a bunch of players who are 30 years old and on the decline. What is the plan with all of them? Are we resigning Dwight and Josh this offseason? Are we keeping Ariza who has a very reasonable contract that other teams might want? Is there any way to unload Corey Brewer? After that, what is the plan to rebuild this team? Is it through the draft? If so, does that mean we're tanking? And if we are, does that mean Harden no longer has a future here since we can't afford to lose him for nothing in 2018?
**** this **** , all lies and half truths . How can he say with straight face that it's the same group that won 56 games last year , when the player who played the third most minutes last season just got traded .
Great, the rockets need get a great coach first, then try to get one great player who likes to play with that coach, then keep Howard. Every thing would be fine.
We were a "Broken Team" before the trade deadline. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/1...bickerstaff-calls-houston-rockets-broken-team How does the move today FIX this "fragmented bunch"?
Great analysis. Wash, rinse. Spit. Do you even read some of the crap you post? Q: what's your plan and how do you reconcile last year's WCF team into this year's 9th place dud and drudge? I have lots of last year's players to follow, and out of town sounds pretty good to me right now. BTW - - IIRC 5 teams total have won 5 or more NBA championships. Some really good players, coaches, organizations haven't won once. Why? Explain it.
He sounds so stupid. Trying to hype up the city and the team so Durant can choose the lottery Rockets, LOL.
In all fairness, PHX allegedly got close to getting LMA to bite on that scenario when they didn't have a star locked in already. If the pitch to Durant gets to be "Harden+you+whoever you want" that's pretty attractive.
