just wanted to know if Morey is interested in adding Carmelo Anthony to the team as part of a trade. it would a big mistake if he doesn't even consider him to be a great asset or even a big part to add to the team.

Well if we take his words at face value (something posters here may or may not agree with), probably not. Although as all good GMs should he's still looking at the possibilities.

"We feel pretty good about our team"

"Not a lot of trade chatter going on"

"League not very active right now"

"I gotta look at everything, that's my job"

I disagree with you on Melo though. Don't believe the hype

He's not allowed to talk about Melo. Or any other NBA player contracted to another team.

All joking aside, I've never come across any indication that just Yao is unacceptable. Clearly Yao Ming is appropriate. What I do know for certain is that referring to him as Ming is definitely inappropriate.

    some in-between-the-lines points...

-when asked about who has been working hard over the summer, Lowry's name was first mentioned. It makes me think that the staff might be comfortable with him as a replacement for Brooks if he gets traded. Although Brooks' range and his creativity on offense to get his own shot is something that Lowry won't ever develop probably.

-martin was called out for his defense. i recall in the first few years with adelman, martin was a serviceable defender so he certainly has the tools to be able to break his bad habits. morey doesn't put expectations on players that is unreasonable, so i think martin will be a much better both-ways player this season.

-i think chuck has emerged as the official leader of the team. it is presumably safe to say that he won't get traded unless it's to match salaries for a very lopsided trade, and even then we'd try to bring him back somehow. has anyone else noticed that battier has been very quiet lately, almost forgotten?

-maybe morey's been reading some of our forums about him gaining weight... lol.

Battier takes it easy during the offseason. Maybe he does some yoga or something.

I think you may need some work on "reading between the lines". If there is any thought out there that Lowry may have been overpaid, Morey needs to work on removing it.

Joking aside Yao is obviously not unacceptable since that's what most people in the US call him. The preferred name is Yao Ming. For example Colin Pine his translator addressed him as "Yao Ming" (which you can see in Yao's documentary). Chinese typically call him Yao Ming.

In Asia you dont call people by just their last name, it's kind of rude. Calling him Yao Ming just makes you sound more educated as the Chinese would say or less clueless as Americans would say. But it's fine to call him Yao in the US, all his notable teammates like Steve and Tmac call him Yao. Deke might have called him "Yao Ming" not sure. I remember that people called Jordan "Mike" in college and at the beginning of his career although Michael is the preferred name. It's not technically wrong.

In Latin America, calling people by their last name is a sign of respect or fear. I will keep calling him Yao.

    Bump

H: Let's get Daryl on. What's the Rockets tailgate practice and policy? Seems to be the big topic on our show.

DM: We let people tailgate wherever they want.

H: There ya go. Watch that Toyota Center garage turn into a hibachi now
...So far so good. Overall scope?

DM: Very competitive camp. Guys working hard. Pushed through yesterday. Everyone getting sick of each other. Everyone picking up each other's moves. It's been great job by coaches and players.

H: Update on Yao? How is he looking and developing?

DM: No worries. We're trying to figure out how he's doing everyday too. Everything is good. He tweaked his ankle 2 days ago but did everything yesterday. Looks pretty good. We'll get a good sense in the preseason games and in live game action because he is progressing pretty well in practices and TC.

H: I know you can't share the interworkings with you and Aaron Brooks and contract talks but he is a vital part of what you're trying to get accomplished this season.

DM: Yeah, he is important to the team. I dont have any issue. Every player only has so long to make their money in this league. My job is to make the team as good as possible, and his job is to play well for us and obviously try to make a career. He's so important, it's worth the discussion. I dont mind when players ask for extensions. We think it deserves the time to talk it through.

H: So far from the reports we've seen, Courtney Lee is fitting in nicely.

DM: Yeah, so far. He's been solid. I think going into that 1st preseason game, we feel pretty good that our players have been playing at near game intensity against high level competition because of the depth of the team.

H: When you go through your 53 man roster, who is jumping off the page right now?

DM: Yeah, quite a few guys are. Chuck Hayes really playing well, Jordan Hill very very impressive, Courtney Lee, Kevin Martin been really good, Aaron Brooks yesterday.

    H: How about Alexander Johnson?

DM: Of the guys trying to make the team, we got some good guys too. Alexander Johnson, Ish Smith, and Mike Harris are playing well and pushing the vets. Some of the vets who been around the block quite a bit, Luis is coming in tired and because of competitive nature, he is fighting these young bucks. I dont know if his heart is totally in it. Shane has come in and looked better everyday. He spent time making sure he was totally healthy and in shape so basketball wise, he hasnt had a chance to get rhythm and timing so he has looked better everyday.

H: You mentioned Yao with tweaked ankle. It's Tuesday down in the Valley, Yao will play?

DM: Yeah I mean thats up to Coach Adelman but I think he'll get some minutes. Probably not the whole 24. I think Coach is trying to stress is that even though 24 is the limit, we're gonna try to work him back slowly. I do think he'll get out there though barring something happening. He hasnt played for so long so he has some general soreness.

H: Coach Adelman already fighting for extra minutes saying I dont think Daryl will yell at me if I play him 25 minutes. What gives? This is a limit!

DM: He and I have already worked that out. Instead of fist fighting, we're gonna do MMA if Yao goes over the limit.

H: So we can set up an octagon at Toyota Center for halftime?

DM: Yeah, we're gonna go octagon. I suggested Chess.

    H: Thanks for the time.

DM: Thanks for having me on.

I'd have to hear the tone that Morey said it with, but I doubt it's anything like what it sounds. Scola wants to compete with everyone at full speed, but he's coming off of the FIBA championships and probably needs to take it easy during camp...which is hard for him to do since he is so competitive.

Based on last year and summer league. there is no way Jordan Hill should be getting this much love from the front office.

Seems like they are definitely pumping up his trade value.
