Wow a front court of Varejao and Scola... Flopping all over the place lol

Scola and Varejao look like cousins would love to have them on the team!

Sorry, no Daryl Morey. Didnt catch it this morning if he was on and no podcast was posted. However, I can give you Aaron Brooks and Gersson Rosas

    Aaron Brooks:

    Whats going on in Orlando?

Not much. Just touched down. Preparing for a tough game tomorrow.

You dont sound so excited. I'm just giving you grief.

Aaron, is this your ring back tone, Sober by Pink?

Yeah, throws people off a bit. If someone gets my number and calls it, they might think it's not me and hang up.

    So diversion tactic?

    Yeah. A little bit.

    Do you change it up?

    Yeah, it was Ting Tings.

    Thats awesome.

    Thank you.

    Out for the game?

Yeah, gonna sit out another one. Trying to push through but been sore. Gonna rest some.

How are you coping with this? Looked like it would be a big year, and still can be but not been on the floor on a consistent basis.

I tried to push through it, thinking it would get better but stayed the same. Tried to do too much too early. Kyle is playing great basketball. Hopefully we can get it going or do even better.

Last night, still too early to talk about games you need but had 13 pt lead on team your chasing. How frustrating was it?

Frustrating to watch. Had a good start. Hit one of those periods where nothing went in. That was the ball game. Portland playing great basketball. We need these games to stay close but we got our work cut out.

Coach looking at all his options. You and Hayes sidelined. When I looked out there mid 2nd Q, and 5 guys were T.Will, Lee, Budinger, Patterson and Miller, that was a new look. He is def. mixing and matching.

With me out, it's good to see Terrence out there to see what he can do. Great player but coach has a lot of pieces. A lot of guys that can play and you'll get your opportunity, and hes looking for what guy will step up and make this rotation and help us win games.

We know Rockets have trouble defending the paint. What do you think on Patterson helping there to fill that gap?

He's a solid guy for his size. Playing well for a rookie. One of our better defenders. Hayes is out, which is one of best post players in the league so he has someone to learn from but he has been doing a good job with his minutes, and should get better as the year goes on.

You brought up Chuck's absence. Guys on the broadcast brought it up. It was obvious guys had trouble stopping LaMarcus Aldridge. Talk about Hayes as a defender and his value there.

1 on 1 - he's one of the best post guys. He allows us not to double certain guys. Moves his feet, solid guy, center of gravity is amazing and instinct is good. He allows us to matchup and go one on one and not double the post so much. These last games against Nene and Aldridge, he would have helped out.

Howard tomorrow and Celtics coming up, so yeah, not good time for him to be out. When he's on the low block on D and has his feet set, how hard is it to push him off the spot?

You cant. Maybe Shaq? Hard to move that guy. His center of gravity, it's pretty good. There are a couple guys that defend like him. Kurt Thomas and him, those are 2 best defenders in the league in terms of post D.

Last night, through 3 Qs, Martin went nuts. Rich uses the word elite when describing offensive exploits of Martin. When he gets going, tough to stop.

Definitely. 40 something points on 18 shots, that's a good game. He can score the ball in many different ways. He was on fire last night but unfortunately couldnt get the win. He had himself an outstanding games.

I assume everyone on the team heard the news on Yao and surgery. Not breaking news. He released a statement. You expect to see him out there again?

I hope so. He'll do everything in his power to get healthy. Only he knows how his foot feels. Hopefully we see him again. If not, I know he loved the game and he loved to play. Depends on how it goes but I dont think this is it. His pride for basketball probably brings him back.

Orlando tomorrow night. Appreciate dropping by.

    Thank you. Appreciate it.

    Gersson Rosas

Tough one last night. Hard to say anything but a bad loss.

Yeah, one that will sting. We're gonna be fighting with those guys rest of the season for playoffs. Gotta win those at home and we let it get away.

Big news today was Yao underwent surgery for ankle problem. Leading up today, not sure it was certain he was going to have surgery but when the decision was made, they wasted no time, correct?

Yeah. We've been respectful of Yao. Been a sensitive process. He's done his due diligence to make the best decision for him. Through the process, he got the info he needed to get the surgery done. We'll continue to support him in whatever way possible.

Rumors flying about Yao's contract being dealt. I know you cant comment on it but listening to offers?

Yao is a big piece to our team. We value him. As a whole, we'll do our due diligence. We've invested a lot in him and he's a big part of our team.

Was last night Terrence's first meaningful minutes?

It was. He played spot duty Sunday. Coach did a good job getting him in and in early. Martin got hot in 2nd half so he didnt return. He was a bright spot, being able to get in the rotation with Aaron out.

Terrence seemed eratic. Almost over anxious.

He is a young player. Hes anxious to make an impression on his coaches and teammates. He wants to help this team win. When your not in the rotation and then get minutes, you wanna make the best impression and sometimes do too much. Our coaches our doign a good job explaining the game plan to him and letting him know how he can help. It will be a process. Coach's track record speaks for itself. He handles those guys the right way.

Young an inexperienced but in brief look, he is athletic. I like the way he carries himself. Doesnt lack confidence.

He doesnt. He's confident. Very tough and competitive. We're intrigued by his abilities to play both ends. He got great D abilities but has to develop and mature. On offense he is rare that he is very skilled handler and can pass and make plays for other. Last night, probably more aggresive on O but can get to the basket. A lot of things we value on that end, he possesses. It will take time but we think his game will develop at a high level.

Depending on matchups, can he play one, two, and three?

Yeah, thats his versatility. In time, he'll probably become our best option in situations as a backup or 3rd PG. We got 2 good PGs there but in our offense, ones and twos interchangable. With his ability to handle the ball and pass, he is intriguing. He brings a different skillset and when you got Kevin and Aaron and put him in the mix, he can create shots for those guys effectively.

Defensively, biggest issue is in the post. Aldridge exposed that last night. Patterson starting to get more minutes. Pat got big body, though I imagine with Pat, he is a 4 but almost in a oversized 3's body. He got a versatile game.

He is versatile but I would say he is all 4. Got good size and length. His bread and butter is in the paint on both O and D. Strong rebounder and is physically strong. He got rare ability for a rookie - he understands D better than O right now. Aldridge a tough matchup for him but as a help defender and in the post, we like his upside. He is tough. Did some good things in the D-league and felt that prepared him for this opportunity. Big thing is, we are seeing how much we value Chuck.

Dwight Howard tomorrow night. Might Patterson attempt to slow him down?

Coaches are looking at everything. Tough matchup. Hope as team D, we can improve. You'll see a wide array of guys on Dwight to see what or who works.

Magic shook up their roster. Thoughts on that?

When a contender makes that much change in season, it's hard but credit to those guys. They've done a good job. Credit to SVG. Arms race out there in the East. We're gonna face a top team but we gotta give it our best and steal one on the road.

Phoenix involved on that. Not horrible team but I dont know how committed they are to winning. Nash still there. You expect him to be moved?

Still a lot of teams trying to figure out where they are at and who they are. They're one of those teams. We're creeping up on the trade deadline so teams doing due diligence. These next 2-3 weeks will reveal what the season holds for teams.

Still a lot of good PGs. Nash a 2 time MVP. Where does he rank?

He's one of the best shooters we have in this league. He's a special player on a special team. Went on a special run last year. They still got a lot to play for. We feel like we're in the same boat to make a run. We're gonna give it all we got.

Got a feel on how busy on activity leading up to the deadline?

I think there will be a lot. Always a lot of convos. Deals hard to get done because 2 teams gotta be on same page. Teams gotta agree. A lot of chatter and conversations. Orlando big domino to fall early. Denver and NJ, everyone waiting to see when that comes through. Everyone waits til the last minute on the trade deadline as history shows.

    Gersson, where are you?

In Florida on our way to a college game scouting.

    Just checking.

    ...

Best of luck tomorrow. Appreciate you dropping by.

    Thanks a lot. Appreciate it.

I know, but if you go through the thread, it became more of a 'Everything 610' thread.

I didn't want to create a new thread and didn't see someone already did just that.

And since I don't have the privilege to delete my post ... it is what it is.

I concur, I think it’s better this way too. Then again, I’m a master at derailing threads.

My guess is that he's been heavily involved in "conversations" with the Melo trade. Also could be working in as a third team in the NJ/Detriot - Rip/Murphy Deal.

Did anyone catch what Morey said this morning? He was supposed to be on 610 at 8:00am, but for some reason there's no audio replay on the 610 website.

Anyways, here's an interesting interview from yesterday with Rockets CEO Tad Brown:

From 7:02-8:50 Tad talks about Yao's value to the franchise from a financial perspective.

I didn't see it posted anywhere else. Please excuse me if it is.

I had posted this in another thread. Didn't get much reaction, which I thought was odd, even if people believe Daryl is blowing smoke.

He gave this interview a day or two ago, while down at the D-League tournament (?) (which was ostensibly the reason he didn't call in this morning, still being tied up with that or whatever).

    http://www.thedreamshake.com/2011/1...with-rockets-gm

I introduced myself to Daryl Morey in between games on Tuesday night. I might have interrupted a conversation of his with NBA D-League president Dan Reed, but I hope that wasn't the case. Anyhow, Morey was very complimentary of the blog, said that it was well-written and actually thanked me for the coverage (I wonder if this is a sign that we need even MORE negativity?). After exchanging a few quibs for a bit, I asked him the following questions:

TM: Patrick Patterson went 10-4-4 in the big win last night. What have you liked about his showing thus far?

DM: Yeah, he's had a great start to his pro career. He obviously came down to the Vipers and improved every single game, and with the injuries to Yao Ming, to Brad Miller and now to Chuck Hayes, it's really opened the door to give him some minutes. He's really made the most of it.

TM: You just saw Tiny Gallon play with the Maine Redhawks, and while we're talking about bigs, do guys like him and RGV's Jeff Adrien have interest to you down the road?

DM: They have interest to me now, actually. That's why I'm here. We're always looking to upgrade if we can and we have a lot of guys on our Vipers team that might get a call-up. You mentioned that we've got Adrien. We've also got guys like [Jerel] McNeal, [Mustafa] Shakur, Richard Roby, Antonio Anderson... certainly I'll forget some guys, but we have a lot of players with good pro potential. And then with a guy like Tiny Gallon who looked impressive today... there is certainly a lot of talent in the D-League.

TM: Nobody can seem to explain where Ish Smith came from. How in the world did you guys discover him?

DM: (Laughs) I don't know -- we ended up liking him early, he obviously played his whole career at Wake Forest, came out as a senior. He's very aggressive, had NBA skill with his speed and his passing ability. Honestly, nobody knows, but he's really improved his shooting -- that's why he fell in the draft -- and now that his shooting has improved, there's no question he is an NBA player.

TM: With Yao having the recent ankle surgery, what happens from here? Is he still associated with the team? What's his involvement like?

DM: He's out for the year. Still involved with the team, still doing rehab. He'll be a special player for the franchise forever, no matter what happens. It looks like he's going to try to make it back, though nothing has been finalized. He's still talking to the doctors, but we'll know more as time goes on.

TM: Lastly, with all of these Carmelo Anthony talks starting to lengthen, it's been reported that, for example, Denver is threatening New Jersey in saying they'll trade him to New York and all of that... I suppose my question is if it ever gets this weird, behind the scenes?

DM: (Laughs) It's a big decision for Denver and for all the clubs involved. Naturally, it just takes time. It's not good how public things have gotten. We're not involved, you know, so we'll see how it plays out from there.

TM: Not involved, as in with those talks specifically?

DM: No, we are not involved with those talks specifically. There has been definite speculation but I can definitely say that we're not involved.

    * * *

I'm still no master of the perfect interview, as you can clearly see, but it was nice to have a chance to finally meet Daryl in person and get to talk with him for a few minutes. For the record, I do believe the Rockets are still involved in some sort of discussion, just perhaps not in a possible three-way trade with New Jersey and Denver.

I am skeptical about this interview, nothing against who wrote it but I've never heard Morey speak of specific players on other teams in regards to trades. He spoke about Bosh because he was a FAgent but he tends to shy away from anyone else that is under contract with another team in this regard.

I wondered, too, but if it was invented, ESPN decided to post it anyway (it was one of their Wednesday bullets).

    So, who knows?

If it's real, he could simply be stating that the trade as reported isn't accurate and the Rockets aren't out to acquire Carmelo. Again, who knows?

Gawd, how many weeks til the deadline?
