If i use the same logic, Carl Landry would practically be a 20 points 10 rebounds guy, projected from NBA competition, so why would I start Gortat over Landry or Scola at PF? Landry,Carl GP GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% RPG APG SPG BPG PPG Career 111 0 19.6 .589 .250 .758 5.0 .5 .4 .3 8.8
For the record, I am not as hyped as a lot of people seem to be about the possibility of signing Gortat. He seems like a nice backup at this point but that's it. Starting a backup-caliber C if Yao is out doesn't get me going. People look at his minutes as a backup and try to extraploate that to being the top guy and playing against the top players on other teams. Gortat hasn't proven he can do that consistently. There is almost no chance he comes close to matching Yao's overall production (esp. on the offensive end) and Yao has led us to the 2nd round once during his illustrious career. I was just focusing on the "looking forward to 2010" part of your comment. If you were talking about the draft as much as anything else, I hear you. I just get concerned with so many fellow fans seeming to think "all we have to do is wait til 2010 free agency and we'll be all set to win some championships." A few teams will walk away from that free agency bonanza happy while a bunch of other teams will be taking 2nd and 3rd tier players or nothing at all. Only 1 team will get LeBron. Only 1 team will get Wade. After that, I think the remainder of the players are overhyped or will be getting too old despite having high profile names.

I have a fear that whoever gets him will severely overpay for him. However, he's the exact type of center you need to thrive in today's game: athletic, soft touch, aggressive rebounder who pursues, and extremely active.
I like how the OP posted that info without a link to Morey's Twitter. Pretending like he had inside knowledge or something. LOL.
Once again, how does Gortat fit into Rick Adelman's system? If you could get him for cheap, that is one thing, but this is the kind of thing that comes back to haunt you if you overpay. Look at guys like Chris Kaman, Andrew Bogut, Okafor, Tyson Chandler, the list goes on. "Big Men with Bigger Contracts." The problem with Gortat is that he is restricted and Orlando has no backup for Howard. They aren't going to let him go unless someone overpays.
