By "I'm hearing," I was listening to a talkshow. The host said someone he knows in the media, not necessarily an "insider," said we could make a sign-and-trade happen with Gortat.

Dang, Morey offered Gortat a #13 Rockets jersey. I guess Wafer is completely out of the picture. Good luck James White

Keep in mind that Scola will be a free agent next Summer and the Rockets might not be able to afford to re-sign him, not if they have Bosh in their sights. It would not be far fetched to see Scola traded in an attempt to salvage a bad situation and try to get something in return.

I think you are misreading... the sign part is Gortat signing.

I wonder if two GMs have showed up to the same player's house at the same time once the Free agency courting period begins..

Uh-oh! Who does this remind you of?

Magic's Polish center Marcin Gortat rips Stan Van Gundy for panicking:

    http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sp...gortat-rips-stan-van-gundy-for-panicking.html

An international controversy involving a backup center from Poland.

"The nature of our coach, he panics very often during games," the Magic's Marcin Gortat told a Polish newspaper recently. "He's got some behavior which is not good for us. With his gestures he makes us nervous on the floor."

Gortat obviously has a lot to learn about American basketball and worldwide media. As Sentinel colleague David Whitley stated in his column about Van Gundy that appeared in today's Sentinel: Gortat is "apparently unaware Polish can be translated and put on the Internet. ... Geez, the guy has a couple of double-figure games and he thinks he's Kareem-Abdul Gortat."

The good part is that Van Gundy isn't being publicly questioned by Dwight Howard. If that were the case, he'd probably be out of a job. But, honestly, do you really want your role players second-guessing your coach?

Coming soon: Reserve center Adonal Foyle rips Van Gundy to a Carribbean newspaper and veteran backup point guard Anthony Johnson lambastes Van Gundy in an interview with a reporter from AARP Illustrated.

Seriously, it's one thing when Shaq calls Van Gundy a "Master of Panic" from afar, but to have Gortat say it from the end of the Magic bench is a bit troubling.

Surely, everybody is going to laugh off Gortat's criticism because it came from a second-year backup from Poland, but it's never good when a player criticizes his own coach -- no matter what language it's in.

    Your thoughts on Gortat's criticism?

Sounds like he's fixing to cut loose from Orlando. In comparison to Stan, Coach A is the calm, brilliant Master walking the sidelines.

agreed. moreover, i wouldn't advise giving a long term contract to any player over 30 at this point for the rockets. it's time to start loading up on young players and picks.

Why does everyone think Gortat is some sort of a beast? He's a backup center at best.

I don't know, but let's hope Gortat doesn't go to clutchfans.net after the Rockets lose a game

    At best?

I think at worst he's proven he's a backup centre.

"At best" you'd want to look at his performance as a starting centre this season:
    33 minutes per
    10ppg on 52%
    11.7rpg (5.7 offensive  )
    3.0 bpg
    0.7 spg
    1.0 apg

It's only 3 games, but it doesn't include his mammoth 11 points 15 rebounds, 4 steals 2 assists effort up against Samuel Dalembert and co in philly.

Sure - small sample size, but if you're talking "at best" then how can you not look at his starter production as a "best case scenario"??

He is big, he's athletic, he plays defence, he rebounds, he blocks shots and he doesn't take dumb shots (ie - ones he can't make).
He's not going to be a big time scoring centre - but at best I certainly think he's a starting centre in the NBA.

We would have no center if he didn't sign with us. :(
Dorsey & Hayes at the backup C? :(

So that would be odd for Orlando - basically the only way they can S&T is to use their MLE (part or all) for Gortat's salary amount.

Be GREAT for us if it involved them getting Hayes + Barry or something like that. Would mean we still have the MLE to use.

Personally I'd find the S&T avenue highly unlikely...

    1. He is the best Center available this off-season.
    2. He is still quite young and could possibly improve.
    3. Even if he doesn't improve, getting a productive center that plays good minutes at the MLE or less is steal given how teams tend to overpay for size.

They might be asking for Scola or Landry, both of them are in the 3M to 3M plus range.I don't mind trading Luis(although I hate that idea) but not for Gortat. Neither do I want to give up Landry for him. I like Hayes a lot,but that's ok with me as well.
