Gortat is a restricted FA. Rox offer small contract, magic match. Rox offer huge contract, not gonna happen. I rather go for Zaza an UNrestricted FA.
A few new suggestions for phrases from the readers of my blog: If you sign, we all switch the numbers on our Rockets tees from 34 to 13. Jak podpiszesz, to zmieniamy numery na koszulkach Rakiet z 34 na 13 Houston, we've got a problem. If you don't sign. Houston, mamy problem. Jeśli nie podpiszesz Best Michal
It would take the full MLE to make the magic even think twice about taking this offer. Their owner is a multi-billionaire with eyes on the championship.
The Magic have already said they can't match any offer of $5 mil or more, and obviously Gortat is a likely full MLE player, here or elsewhere. It's the price the position commands. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...turkoglu-gortat-30063009jun30,0,3159313.story
Both Scola and Divac were crafty players both on offense and defense. And I don't get frustrated if Scola lays the ball in everytime, cause it's not a dunk contest. 2 points is 2 points. And Brooksball was just stating that Gortat hasn't proven that he can play against other starter types on a consistent basis. This isn't to say that Brooksball think he's being falsely projected to be a "go to" low post scorer, or that Gortat hasn't shown flashes that he can play. With all due respect to Polish fans, Gortat is just... blah, for now. He's a project, which is why we're projecting his ability with "if he's given more minutes... etc." I'm more interested in our contract offer more than anything. I hope this creative recruiting signals that we're offering him fair market value (below MLE 3 years, maybe 4) and appealing to his emotion (Hey we want you more than any of the other teams!), which would only work if the Magic doesn't resign him. I'm definitely not down for outbidding (overpaying) for his services.
I see the Magic just letting Gortat walk. There going to be in luxury tax hell if the resign Hedo or not, they only have 8 players under contract.
Is anyone else surprised that nobody is reporting Houston interest. No ESPN report about it. I sent my email anyway altough I Think DM knows Magic is matching and we are using him as leverage
Let's send him some Gorditas. Or that could be a new promotion at Toyota Center if he's signed. Gorty's Polish Gorditas by Taco Bell.
Nice to have confirmation from the opposing GM himself. Don't know if he's worth it, but it's nice to know what we can steal him for.
What, you weren't impressed by his 14 assists all year long (0.017 assists per minute). Heck, Chuck Hayes had 28 more assists than he did. That said, can't blame the guy for doing what he did in the limited minutes he got. You'd have to view Gortat as a draft pick, almost....and trust in Morey's ability to evaluate that kind of talent. Looks like he only played 11 games in the regular season where he got more than 20 minutes. 16 games of more than 15 minutes. In those 16 games he averaged 24 minutes, scored 8 points, grabbed 9 boards and blocked 1.4 shots a game. In the other 47 games he averaged 2.3 ppg, 3 rpg and 0.6 bpg. Morey is clearly banking on the fact that with more minutes and experience, he is already decently productive, and is hopeful to get better. I did Pachulia's stats, too. Comparison below: >15 Minutes Per Game: Gortat - 16 games, 24.25 mpg, 8.2 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.4 bpg Pachul - 54 games, 22.3 mpg, .3 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 0.4 bpg <= 15 Minutes Per Game: Gortat - 47 games, 8.6 mpg, 2.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 0.6 bpg Pachul - 23 games, 11.7 mpg, 3.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 0.3 bpg I can see why Gortat might be the target over a Pachulia, especially with defense as a consideration.
I like Gortat but I am not sure if I am willing to pay full MLE for him. If I knew Yao was done, I would be incline to take a chance with Gortat. Having potentially 20+ million of your cap space reserved for your center position really limits the Rockets spending on other positions.
Again, I haven't seen much of Gortat...but from what I have seen he is at least better than an average center because he can finish, has size and seems to defend well. IIRC, sorry to avg centers at least get MLE deals.
i'd say the odds that yao is done are high enough that the difference between what you would be willing to spend on Gortat and what the Rockets might actually have to spend on Gortat is marginal.
His ability to defend the pick and roll as a center is huge in itself. Get Carrol Dawson and Dream to work alittle with him in the summer and you may have a real steal.
Rockets got competition for Gortat: Dallas, New York, Indiana, according to ESPN. I wonder if Donnie Nelson ran into Morey at Gortat's house.
