Daryl Morey is the best GM in sports. No other GM would ever do something like this. Daryl Morey, you're the man!
Jestes brakujacym ogniwem When I ran this one through google translate it comes back: You are the missing link. LOL, I am not sure that would be a compliment.
This is all hilarious. I'm all for this acquisition, because I'm solidly in the camp that says we need to be preparing for life long term without Yao Ming. But this Gortat quest is taking on Shandon Anderson proportions.
Why so high on him? Can someone explain to me, the only reason I would even get happy is if The Rockets new that Yao isnt going to sit out the following season and are basically adding a backup. We need someone better - I Say go for Camby
i cant believe some of you guys. we're not getting gortat to be our low post, go to scorer. get that into your heads! we want him because he's tall, athletic, good rebounder and a nice shotblocker. we're gonna use him on the PnR, set picks. he'll be Houston's Vlade Divac, only more athletic. imagine him playing at the elbows or at the top of the key, setting pick and rolls. that's how we're gonna use him. think motion offense guys. that's why morey wants him. he's efficient and plays smart and would flourish within a system like Adelman's. He's a taller and more athletic version of Scola. And while Luis likes to lay it up all the time, Gortat will dunk it! Remember the times when everyone gets frustrated with Luis because he doesnt dunk the ball? Now imagine Gortat getting those same possessions instead of Luis! And if Gortat indeed signs up, let's hope DM goes after Amare hard. And if Gortat flourishes, we can probably give up Luis Scola (if we managed to get our hands on Amare) and go after another player that DM covets (e.g. rubio). gortat/yao/dorsey amare/budinger battier/white artest/jrich/taylor rubio/lowry
yeah it reminds me of the Marc Jackson hype a couple years back. Both were pretty young centers who had some good games in the previous season. We didn't get him, but we would have paid to much for him. That being said, I do like Gortat and would like to add him, but it should not cost to much. I do not see a better option which we can get without losing key players.
Very true on the "much better athlete" part. I only got to see him play in the Finals, but I saw a few running dunks off quick cuts and the like. I swear I even saw one semi-cockback slam. The dude is not a stiff by far. Their defense also didn't suffer when he was in the game. He seems to be a solid defender.
Very cool idea - very forward thinking of a GM to use Social Networking to attract a free agent. Not just an out of the box thinker in terms of how he evaluates basketball -- he seems to be a very good marketer. Has there been any indication of results (how many emals were sent, how it went over)...?
except marc jackson couldn't play defense or rebound like gortat can. i think that is a fundamental difference since centers are supposed to be able to play defense and rebound.
Here is the database from draftexpress than spans a number of years, probably the most comprehensive available publicly. There are some atheletes who did not get tested (notably, this year, Hasheem Thabeet), but 12'2'' is definitely up there among those for whom data is available. http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?year=All&sort2=DESC&draft=0&pos=0&sort=11 Shaq, actually, leads the pack... then again, helluva lot a good it did for Kenny Gregory.
