Hey, at least they're not picking us to be dead last. But I agree with Morey - J. Hill is my favorite too, only because she picks us to go #8. But in the West, that's going to mean we have scrape out 45 - 47 wins. So, #10 seems more probable.

Morey was just trying to make a point why you should'nt buy all this sports casters prediction, but better yet it will hurt more if Houston can really prove they can be a legit team this season. Go get em' Daryl!!

 

I know - I was being facetious. Most of the sports writers are only because they don't really study what they're writing about.

 

a) Morey is simply having fun - and Simmons is being much more playful in his trash talking than he is hating


b) Jemele Hill is indeed an idiot (not in reference to being the only one to pick an 8th seed for Rockets)

c) Bill Simmons is entertaining, and occasionally "perspectively insightful" (to coin a term), but he doesn't get the NBA anywhere near as well as he thinks he does. He's a bigger fan of it than the other sports, but his actual knowledge is pretty poor considering that. He gets things dead wrong at least half the time.

d) I'm expecting something in the neighborhood of 40 wins from this Rockets team. On paper, they can't compete. But when you look at them, you can tell that this isn't a loser locker room. Shane and Scola are the ones setting the tone, and that's going to go a very long way. We aren't beating the league's top 10, but we should handle the talented but unprofessional squads like the Warriors and Wizards most nights.

 

I've thoroughly enjoyed the smart posters in this thread that have been taking this seriously. They are good friends from Morey's days with the Celtics, if you knew anything about Simmons, this is how he always its and its hella entertaining.

It's not a fluke, but nor can it be expected to carry into the regular season.

Starters don't play nearly as much in the preseason. And for most teams, there's a sizeable drop in quality between the starters and the bench. For the Rockets, not as much. Considering that, we should perform better in the preseason. In a battle of the reserves, the Rockets are elite.

That is the key to the Rockets. i think we can get overlooked way too much this season. For instance Landry is just as good or better than Scola as his backup and the same could be said for Lowry. We have starters on our bench. I think Budinger is better a scorer than most of our starters and will be during the regular season for spurts much like Wafer was. Then we have the staters??? Ariza, Battier, Scola, Brooks, and Hayes. Now Brooks can easily average 16 a game, Battier 10, Ariza 12, Scola 12, Hayes 5, Landry 10, Lowry 8, Budinger 11, Pops 5. Thats already 95 points a game after short changing them obviously because they will run more and get more shots each without Yao and Tmac for the first half and have shown how already. Then I didnt even include Andersen or Tmac into those arguments yet. I think sports guy is gonna look like a terribly idiotic person when he realizes this isnt the slow down and dump it down to Yao offense. Lets forget that I short changed everyone and gave them their near career averages or Preseason averages. Lets not forget Tmac will come back and at some point add at least 16 points to that 95 points a game equation without adding Andersens contributions and without taking into account the new uptempo style.
