Portland could've said take it or leave it?

It would be sheer stupidity to not allow yourself to formalize a contract with Dwight the moment he's able to sign.

They can say it. But if it is a great deal for them, would they really reject it a week later?

They wanted to show Dwight and his camp how committed they were.

Found the remaining segment of the interview on the 790 website...

    http://www.sports790.com/player/?mi...d=FeaturedInterviews.xml&program_name=podcast

    No mention of this:

-Host: Dwight is plan A. If you don't get Dwight would you try to float the cap space? No long term deal? Or is good plan B out there?

-Daryl: Couple of things. If we don't get Dwight we will be HURT. We would NOT have done TROB deal. We've gambled on Dwight. We are waiting on him and missing other moves in free agency, but we are fully committed to bringing Dwight here.

-Host: Recap: Most important thing you said is that Jeremy Lin and Omer are not available. Only last resort if S&T to get dwight?

-Daryl: No sign and trade to get Dwight. Lakers are not interested in doing that. We have the room to sign him on the 10th and we hope he goes our direction.

I don't understand why we're pitching the China market thing to Dwight. Kobe is the most popular player in China. If Dwight cares so much about the China market shouldn't he stay with the Lakers? Kobe will certainly be with the Lakers forever and Jeremy may be traded anytime.

Kobe is the most popular player, but the Rockets get more exposure. Bigger stage for him to gain fans.

I don't necessarily see having Asik as a luxury unless you're viewing things from a strictly 1990s 1-2-3-4-5 positional basis.

With Parsons being able to slide over to the 4 at times, you could argue we'd get enough out of D-Mo/T-Jones if they develop, with Asik getting short run out there, too.

From a situational perspective: at the end of quarters, going offense-defense with both on the floor could potentially be stifling to opposing teams.

Howard can (or did, pre-injury, and hopefully will again) move and is effective because he's such a mobile presence, more so than Asik yes, but both are good PNR defenders. Bosh helping out on the perimeter and getting hands on some shots swung a couple of the finals games. But in this case, you'd destroy the PNR on the perimeter with the big switching, and still have an interior presence left behind to protect the rim for any reversals/misdirections.

Of course, by making these comments...Morey could well just be anchoring his negotiating position...

So is Leslie really willing to pay the luxury tax this time? I seriously doubt it, but he should. We need to keep Asik when Dwight comes and still pursue guys like Millsap, Brewer & Garcia and pony up the dough!!

There were allegedly a number of suitors for the Greek SF on draft day. The Knicks were after him, and their sources alleged others teams were too.

If you believe that, it's possible there was some pressure for us to take the Portland deal sooner rather than later.

If we get Dwight, we still have two weak links, starting point guard and starting power forward. Trading Lin so we can upgrade the four spot also clears room for Beverly to start, so trading Lin (instead of Asik) kills two birds with one stone.

Probably, because he wanted to go into the meeting with DH showing that he is very close to the max and that he can be obtained without a S&T. It shows that you are all in and a level of seriousness.

I wouldn't use Robinson as an example.

The Rockets only dealt Robinson to send a message to Dwight Howard. I don't think the Rockets wanted to deal him.

Lin is not tradable with that toxic contract. Of course Morey isn't gong to move him.

16 M over 2 years for a guy that can give you 15, 6 while shooting around 45% from the field is not toxic.

One thing that really been bothering me. Do you guys seriously think over acourse of 82 game PB is better than lin. I mean what happen if james is hurt for a period of game. Can pb step in like Lin. A point guards n3ed to pass n score which lin is beeter n will only improve more than pb ever will. No doubt pb is a better rebounder n hustle player but if we get dh , we dont need rebounding especially with asik as backup than a pg who can passs . Honestly guys. I think we all forgot what lin is capable off . He can go for 25 and 10 on any given night where pb most can do is 18 n 7
