Nope, wrong. My feelings on this have been consistent. I wanted a replacement for Ryno while getting rid of his contract, I was under no illusions that we were getting a superstar player back.
Kelly makes good points. But Rockets also need to improve their rebounding and interior team defense. OKC's additions were pretty huge too. Paul George, Anthony, Patterson, Felton.
When a superstar, USA team member, wants to join your team, you have only one choice, to get him, especially the player lists you as the only team he wants to be part of, and you still can't finalize it?! when did that happen last time in NBA? a group of idiots.
We have a win NOW team but Morey will forever have the Hinkie mentality. Reminds me of when we missed out on Kyle Lowry.
This here is right. If they were saying Capella ryan anderson, gordon or ariza, I would have stopped. Just Capella and Ryan Anderson though should have been a no brainer. Getting someone who can create their own shot in the front court is Huge. We can find another Capella. OKC wins.
Melo wasn't worth what they were asking. Its not Morey's fault the Knicks decided to w**** Melo out to OKC.
Melo's not a superstar... Just how good do people think Melo actually is right now? It's like the last time people watched him play on here was back in 2013. He's an upgrade over Ryno, but he's not a superstar, not even close.
Not adding Melo could be what Morey gets blamed for if they have a crappy season and parts they were going to give up (Ariza/Gordon) have bad years or injuries and Melo goes off in OKC. Or it could go the other way where we say thank God Morey didn't gut our team for him. It was a risk reward situation and nobody here knows yet if it was the right decision yet. FYI I think most GM's go for the Melo deal all in and have him in their rosters in July. Thankfully we now have evidence the Rox under Morey will never be in a situation the Nets were in the past 4 years. But they likely will never push it all to the table and go for broke either. I think that's just the org we have now and we just have to accept a risk adverse world where we have a sustainable good model, but never go for broke. I'm okay with that trade off.
We don't know what happened behind closed doors. I'm sure Morey involved his main guys and the sell by Leslie has not made it easier. Truth is, you would have to pay big bucks to keep CP3, Harden, Ariza, Capela & Melo together in the near future so..regardless, it's the right move in my eyes and I'm happy with our team and our GM!
If Bosh and Parsons are anything to go by, Carmelo's in for one hell of a "fun" season. It sucks we didn't get Melo for Anderson straight up, but Anderson can still be wonderful for our team if he can improve his shot at home. I wouldn't give up Capela because he's going to be a lob monster with CP3 and Harden this year and he could potentially stay with us for less in the future, and Gordon is the most important player off of our bench. If they wanted Ariza I could live with that given our signings this offseason, but it seems to me like Knicks wanted 2 of the final 3 and that is just asking way too much.
The really odd thing in all of this is that because of Ryan Anderson's contract, we didn't get Melo. Yet it is also likely that without Ryan Anderson on the team last year we almost certainly don't win 55 games and as a result, there's a good chance Chris Paul isn't a Rocket right now and thus Melo wouldn't have been in play either. So sure Ryan Anderson cost us Melo, but he may have been a key piece in getting us Chris Paul.
Kevin Pritchard's rep was so popular that being "Pritch slapped" became known in media circles. More has a similar rep with the Harden deal and his cap magic that some GMs dont want to look stupid or even want his rep to grow in the media even further.
He still didn't answer me when I told him cbs/espn/br/and SI all have us 2nd and every one except one has us winning more than both... the one has us winning one game less than Boston. And some point the media hates us narrative is going to get old
He didn't have a choice my dudes. Teams were demanding TWO first-ronders to take on Ryan's contract -- he has zero trade value. Ariza is aging and made no sense for a rebuilding New York. Like it or not - Houston has no assets outside Capela - and lets not get carried away here, Capela is a solid role player.
