GM is looking long-term. Coach short-term.

It means in 10-15 minutes Chris Broussard will be reporting it.

Of course they don't DM is trying to get closer to a championship team as soon as possible and sometimes that means trading away better players now (Patterson) to open up playing time for guys with much higher ceilings (DMo).

And coaches are always trying to win the next game - basically GM's take a longer term view than coaches for the most part.

My guess is that is why he had to trade PPat and Morris. Morey wants to see what he has in DMo for the future. Coach Mac would not play DMo except garbage time so Morey forced his hand.

I think this is exactly what it is in reference to.

well we do have a GM as a coach... Mchale never struck me as a coach, but more of a swingman for the front office.

No surprises. Coaches want to win now. GMs want to build a championship team. DMo (TRob) vs 2Pat (MM) is one case. Lin vs Dragic is another. Amnestying Scola who is undoubtedly better than 2Pat another. Letting Courtney Lee/Camby who both would've liked to stay in Houston is another.

I think Motiejunas is already better than both Morris and Patterson.

As long as y'all know you're figuring this out for yourselves... This isn't breaking news for the coaches & GM's, but this could definitely be a REMINDER to coaches of what they already knew they were getting themselves into.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but coaches want to win now and GM's think long term.

DM thinks he should call McHale, McFail. While McHale wants to be called McHale. There you go.

"Obviously, [the] coaching staff probably [doesn't] want both their starting and backup PF traded for the sake of assets."

He was a crappy GM. His team's playoff record while he was GM was nearly as poor as Carroll Dawson's.

But he does understand the system so he's unlikely to be bitter or begrudge Morey for making moves that cost him a few games in the short term.

Coaches care about basketball. GM cares about asset trading.

Newsflash: things that happen in most companies. Goals of upper management don't necessarily align with project managers.

I'm possibly particularly feeling sarcastic about this because my work going through some of this atm.
