Morey did a few good moves but thats not enough to considered him Houstons best GM. Some of us happens to have a short memory of the Houston Rockets history. As of now, Morey is an above average GM but until he can make an amazing move that lands the Rockets a star that will be the franchise player of this team, along with the right pieces that fit around him, plus positioned the team to compete not once but multiple seasons and the most important thing of all is actually winning the championship. When he accomplish all of that, then we can say he's one of the best if not the best GM in Rockets history. But for now, Morey just drafted a couple of decent players and made a couple of good moves but its still doesn't put us on the map just yet. Morey is still on the tip of the iceberg and he still has plenty of un-finish business to do.
Well, you obviously know a lot about Rockets history. So which Rockets GM managed to do what you said in a position similar to Morey's?
The one who drafted Hakeem, could have traded Sampson for the #2 pick (hello Michael Jordan) and Clyde Drexler...
If he gets us Melo in a trade and we win a championship he is the best rockets gm. If he gets us no superstars and we win a championship with just Yao as the centerpiece he's the best gm period!
I wouldn't say that, cuz that GM definitely missed Michael Jordan at #1 overall. Hakeem got picked by Rox just cuz he played for U of Houston IMO.
...put it like this - if Morey were a player on the team right now, I would only trade him for Kevin Durant.
That may be true although I think most basketball guys if you told them to choose between Hakeem and Jordan and they only knew that they would both one day become 1st ballor HOFers, Hakeem would be the choice 90% of the time. Like they say, you can't teach size.
Not only that, how do we know Jordan would've stayed in Houston and not bolted for NY/LA/Chicago/Philly? Hindsight is always 20/20 but there is no denying that Dream worked out well for us.
