just look how larry brown benched carmelo and lebron in the olympics. its like he wants to prove something.... Darko just ran into the wrong coach. At the very least Darko would have developed to be a decent player
Whatever Larry Brown is doing, it's working. I'm sure Detroit is happy to exchange Darko's development for one NBA title (and a chance at another).
Carlos Delfino was impressive. Darko showed that he has skills, lots of them, a nice hook shot, a nice jump shot, he can put the ball on the floor, and he can pass. Whether or not he can put them all together and produce consistently is the biggest question. That's most foreigners biggest problem because all of them have skills, only some of them have been able to adjust to the NBA game and use them consistently. Darko Milicic still can't buy a beer in the US until June 20th of 2006!
I still remember making J O'Neal the butt of half my jokes until he went to Indiana and shut me up. I remember laughing when McGrady referred to himself as a superstar when he was in the process of leaving Toronto. Darko's not a stiff - he's way more athletic than bigs like Collier. Larry's not playing him because he, like JVG, wants to play veterans that already know how to perform and because Darko's prima donna attitude (anyone remember his snobbiness while in Europe?) sealed things. He wanted to play immediately without putting in the time or effort into practice (see Carmelo, Summer Olympics) and Larry Brown's not a coach that takes that too well. Word on the street is, Detroit half wants Larry to walk this summer, so they can be done with the drama he tends to bring and they'll bring in a coach more apt to develop/play Milic. He could still end up being a bust though. Just be careful about laughing to hard at him. Evan

Darko will be a good player, once he gets into a situation where he can play a little more. While Larry Brown is the Pistons coach, 't'ain't gowanns to be in Detroit. Wasted draft pick in that case. As people have pointed out here, you can't argue with a championship; Joe Dumars knew what he was doing. So who knows what might have happened if the Pistons had drafted Carmelo, with Tayshaun Prince playing well, and continuing to improve; or with Dwayne Wade, for that matter. Or Chris Bosh. They could trade Darko and try to salvage the pick so that he can't just bolt in a couple years, but his trade value would be for s**t, and would point to the fact that the Pistons didn't have the patience to nurture a young talent. Fear of watching Darko play well elsewhere? Dumars has shown he isn't afraid of cutting his losses, but a #2 pick...?
How's this for a question: If you were given the choice to bring in either Darko or Kwame Brown, which would you pick? Saying neither isn't an option. Just play a long. Evan
Darko. Kwame has terrible hands and fundamentals, as well as being injury-prone and older --- no thanks.
Who would you pick? For the Rockets, Kwame Brown and watch him play that position better than it's been played since Charles Barkley. Darko Milicic will more than likely become the better player.
