I went to bed right after Dubin gave up the tying homer. Then I wake up and the Astros pulled out another win. This team is growing on me too.
Yes. It's my curse at this moment. Very early to bed. Very early to rise (often before midnight) and hours in sleep purgatory unable to keep my eyes open or to go to sleep. I DO NOT recommend it.
Almost all of us old folks have sleep issues. Exercise and no alcohol in the evening is probably the best remedy along with a very consistent sleep schedule. All 3 things i struggle to do consistently. I recently started taking a magnesium pill before bed and it seems to help. Melatonin often leaves a very drowsy feeling for me. I’ve also discovered mushroom coffee (one without caffeine)in the morning and am completely off of coffee. It makes you more alert than coffee and you don’t have the coffee let down that can lead to mid-day naps or more caffeine if you have work to do.
Interesting. My Doctor just put me on Magnesium. But she didn't specify AM or PM. I may push it to PM with the statin.
I’ve cut back on the alcohol at night and that has made the most difference. It sucks because craft beers and fine wine are some of the finest pleasures in life.
I only really drink in the evening. Only on weekends will I drink early if I'm watching a game. I typically only can work out mornings. Don't have the opportunity at night. Am Intererested in Mushroom coffee. Tell me a little about that (obviously stuff that I can't Google)
Really makes me alert. Some brands also contain caffeine, but I use a brand named Ryze that has no caffeine. The alertness I feel lasts throughout the day even after nights when I didn’t sleep great. There is some concern about its use if you are taking blood thinners as I think it has those properties as well. It is more expensive by the cup than caffeine, but since I only drink one cup a day instead of 2 or 3 of coffee it is not excessively so. I like the taste better than black coffee which is what I used to drink, but that is totally subjective. The friend that turned me onto it sweetens it and adds coconut milk to it. It contains a ton of different mushrooms so brands may differ. The type of mushroom that thins blood is Reisha which is in this particular brand. I think it also gives me a general feel of contentness.
I appreciate the insight. Going to give it a shot. No caffeine definitely interests me. I don't use any blood thinners so that's of no concern. I'm a fan of coconut milk too so I can do that as well. Thanks. I'll report back once I try it out
My Cardiologist finally took me off the blood thinner after about 4 years so I suppose I can look into it.
I’ve made a lot of changes so I can’t contribute the mushroom coffee, the magnesium, or less alcohol as the reason, but I’m getting a solid 7 hours a sleep a night since the changes, sometimes more. I do know that the mushroom coffee is a distinct change in how I feel during the day. I can feel its effect just a few minutes after I drink it. In my heart of hearts I think the less alcohol consumption is the main factor in getting better sleep.
