We need a 3 guard starting lineup. Bev, Harden and EG, plus Nene and Ryan. Limit Capela to 10-12 minutes. Nene needs 24-25 minutes. Ariza should come off the bench. The Thunder are comfortable because of the limited scoring ability of our starting lineup. Nene can defend quite well, and Gordon isn't bad as well. Heck even Harrell might be a better choice right now, than Capela. It's time for D'Antoni and the team to wake up!
I actually like how he handled the last play last night, "if he miss it, go for it", "if he makes it, time out". he knows how not to disrupt the flow.
Re that last play: I've coached youth basketball. I've called a timeout in that situation and am pretty sure it cost my team the game by allowing the defense to set up. I have no problem with D'Antoni betting that his guys could beat the Thunder in an improvised finish.
There's no way the Rockets could have done better than a Harden clean look at a 3 by calling timeout in that situation. That's a shot you dream of when you decide to call a timeout.
D'Antoni has great rotations and this year has really gotten the most out of this roster, but I agree that sometime he waits too long to call timeouts when it's clear the other team is getting momentum. I have on issue with us going no timeout on that last play though.
I have more problems with his rotation and yes he waits too long for time-outs sometimes, but it's good to give guys confidence to fight through it. There's a lot more to calling time-outs than people think.
I'm also a fan of giving the players a long leash and seeing if they can play through rough patches. Not that he's perfect, but Pop is known for doing this and he's regarded by many as the best coach of all time.
No doubt. The success of scoring in that position is not guaranteed with a timeout either though. With a player like harden, you gotta trust him to go downhill with a head full of steam sometimes. Hindsight is 20/20. If we called a timeout and got stuffed then posters would be saying we shouldnt have called a timeout. In a vacuum, it was not a poor decision to not call a timeout. He got open and had a decent look for the win. He just missed a shot
Inexcusable that we had 3 timeouts and chose to inbound under their basket. Westbrook was so close to stealing that to tie the game up.
Up 11. Waits until we are losing to call a timeout. This pattern will not work against the Spurs or Warriors.
Timeouts are literally the least of my issues with Mike . Putting Trevor on WB was a r****ded move, it singlehandedly torpedoed our defense .
Its obvious what dantoni wants....he wants us to keep running and gas out the old spurs. Thats why hes not using TOs as much and i like the strategy. The problem is you have to deepen your trotation a little bit because we looked just as tired at the end of the game. Put dekker in at the pf position for 8 min to help relieve someone. The offensive movement was dead at the end because no1 had the energy to keep going
Omg whats wrong with him man. Why he refusing to call timeout when it matters most to stop the bleeding. Pops need to teach him to have timeouts.
