A Lowry for Melo or Amare centered trade would work out well for the Knicks. Lowry + Martin for Melo or Lowry + Scola for Amare would give the knicks a serious chance to contend. I'm not big on those two guys being the best player on a team but they have the name recognition that could land you another star player. Besides, Morey's talent is finding role players without giving up anything of value. I'd feel much better about our future outlook with a proven dominant scorer, even if he isn't a top 5 or top 10 superstar player.
It's nice to see New York and New Jersey still flailing, even with their superstars. Superstars aren't as valuable in this league as people think. They need a good coach and most importantly a good team around them.
New York need to trade Stoudamire or Carmelo (one of them) for some all star point guard. That will free up the space inside for either Carmelo or Stoudamire whoever is left.
No one ever says you won't lose with a superstar, you just can't win a championship without one. So yeah, superstars are by far the most important component of professional basketball.
Even Joe Dumars knew this truth, when he formed the championship Pistons. The Pistons were a great team, but they weren't going to win a championship until they got a superstar. Dumars swung for the fences for 2-time All-Star Rasheed Wallace.
He's definitely more of a superstar than Williams in Jersey or Stoudemire in NY. He was a huge impact player on both sides of the court. A decade ago, he matched up well with Duncan. Now, he is past his prime.
If the Knicks lose to the Wizards tonight (which I doubt very much), wouldn't surprise me if D'Antoni gets replaced by Woodson tomorrow.
